Hi guys here's hoping someone can help my lovely x/type 2.2 diesel auto which I have only  had for about 5 weeks broke down this morning about 2 miles from home it started juddering badly then a light came on for glowplugs and then computer message gearbox fault both of which I am not sure were relevant then engine cut out completely and refused to start again spent 3.5hrs awaiting AA recovery who could do nothing except arrange to have car removed to a local vehicle repairers, diagnostic which he plugged in said fuel pump fault and guy cracked an injector union whilst I cranked it over and fuel being delivered so not sure what it could be apart from expensive I guess, car has done 88k with a full regular service history has anyone experienced same type of fault please ???

thanks guys.

Hi Les,

I had the same problem with my car, same model and age. Tried such things as egr valve etc but finished up replacing the turbo and serviced the injectors and its been fine since.

Hope you get sorted.

Hi Les,

The X Type turbo can cost up to £300+ new and with the intake manifold included. Better prices can be had if you do not need the manifold and better still if you were happy to take on a used or recon unit if they can be found.

Given those kind of costs you will need to be absolutely sure its the Turbo before getting your wallet out. Your local repairer should be able to test yours to see if it's failed.

Good luck,

Steve

Hi Les,

I dont know the cost as the garage I bought the car from picked up the bill. I got the car checked by our local independent specialist (jaguar tech) and it was them who sorted the problem

Car drives lovely now. The turbo incident was 20,000 miles ago.

Cheers

Hi Les,

Sorry to hear that your pain continued and I hope now that your troubles are finally over.

By the way, did your repairer offer any explanation about where the metal filings had come from?

Cheers,

Steve

thanks steve and yes as has been seen in this forum the high pressure pump was breaking up causing the metal particles to block the system not an uncommon fault apparently hopefully all sorted now .

Further grief after the above expensive repair (£2k) the car is an absolute dog to start after leaving over night whereas it used to start on the button now it takes 3 or 4 times to start and when it fires eventually runs on only about 2-3 cylinders for about 1.5 minutes but once settled down it goes and performs perfectly with great acceleration and power delivery all day long and starts on the button during this period on every occasion, its a real pain and with cold weather on the way can see it not starting at all, ANY IDEAS GUYS a jaguar specialist over the phone suggested that he thinks it is a very minor air leak in low pressure system not priming the pump correctly I am open for any ideas folks before I take it back to the repairers to try and sort ???. thanks in anticipation guys !!

Hi Lesboy

Clutching at straws, but could it be something like glow plugs?. If it started ok before the repairs I would be going back to them just in case they have not reconnected something.

Cheers

Yes Rod the repairers will be getting it back they are good people with a very good reputation for many years just they are so busy all the time and it could be a glow plug problem if they have not connected one properly but no faults logged and light comes on and goes off perfectly the more I read and more I think an air leak seems more feasible watch this space, thanks for your comments anyway. cheers Les.

Great news Les and just in time for Christmas. You must be on the Nice List so no coal for you.

Cheers and Have a Merry One - and if you do stay out of the driving seat and let the Jag Grin appear by admiring your X Type from the window.
