Hi,

i bought a new Jaguar XF 2litre (163) hoping that, with care and regular maintenance, it would last me the rest of my motoring days (I’m nearing 7p). Beautiful motor and very smooth. It’s the aluminium version so the body should last. At my first 21k service I was told that the brake discs were corroded and the pads needed replacing. I have a lot of driving experience (and maintenance bills) and i accept that the pads will need replacing but I know that discs should last a lot longer than that, especially the way I drive (sedately). I’m now beginning to wonder whether Jaguar parts are inferior. I don’t want to jeopardise my warranty so just before it expires I am thinking about replacing the discs with good quality non Jaguar parts. Is this feasible or am I being too fussy? Regardless, if I have to use Jaguar parts I don’t think I’ll be paying main dealership service prices.

Hi Terry, and welcome to the Club from another member in your locality!

Others with more technical knowledge than myself will be able to give better information than myself, but I do know that neither pads nor brake discs last like they used to. I think that is the same across all marques, so not particularly a Jaguar issue. I see that they say that the discs are corroded rather than worn out, so maybe they could be skimmed.

Until your warranty expires I would have thought you should only use Jaguar parts.

Hi and welcome

The modern Jaguar's seem heavy on discs and pads, because most are automatic, your allways on the brakes

new ones are not that expensive, try british car parts or sng barrat, both do genuine jaguar parts and aftermarkets parts at reasonable prices

Jaguar and all other car manufacturers get most of their parts from the same sources.  The Black Country, as well as Coventry and Birmingham, is filled with small parts makers.  Some years ago I was in a Drop Forge in Cradley who were make con rods for the Hillman Hunter which was still being made in Brazil.
