As I said in my previous thread. I soon will be taking ownership of an S type. One issue I have to deal with is that in the past someone spilt some brake fluid on the wing and it needs respraying. as it has bubbled and blistered. can some one give me an Idea as to how much I should expect to pay for the front wing to be resprayed. And any recommendations in the Huntingdon/St Neots/St Ives area.

Hi Andrew,

Welcome to the club. Fortunately, from my perspective, I have no direct experience but my guess would be £250-350 for the whole wing but I may be on the low side. It's possible you could reduce the cost quite significantly by doing all the prep work yourself but that will depend on how comfortable you are with doing the job of rubbing down the whole wing. If you decide to go down this route you will need to remove the clear-coat and get to the base paint on the undamaged areas of the wing and of course, if necessary down to the primer or bare metal where the wing has been damaged.

Best suggestion would be to get a couple of quotes from a couple of competent local outfits and based on them doing the full job or to paint and clear-coat only. If you do, make sure to ask them how they will match your paint and also to advise you on what contrast you could expect between the new clear-coat sheen and the rest of the bodywork - this could be quite significant depending on the age of the car and how its been stored. Having said that however a careful application of T Cut should bring the old finish to something very near a new clear-coat finish.

Get a quote from Chips Away,  Andrew.

I had the whole of my side badly scraped and two doors needed a full respray.  £416 in total.  I think a wing could be less than £300.

Peter.
