How can I find out what what the original spec of a car is with only the Reg number?

The reason I ask is that my insurance company shows the car as being a Sport 200, however it as first registered in late Sept 2004 which as I understand makes it too late to be a Sport 200. at the moment I don't have easy access to the VIN. Obviously Iit may make a difference to the insurance quote.

Hi Andrew,

On the S Type there is a plate / label on the internal face of the A Post of the front passenger door. It's factory installed and provides VIN Number and other information such as Paint Code. I'm not sure when the relevant legislation came in, it may have been before 2004, to oblige manufacturers to put a visible VIN plate in the bottom left hand corner behind the windscreen on UKL cars.

There are some websites around that, using the VIN, can I'm told, get you the full spec when your car came out of the factory. I've tried this myself but cannot say I was impressed with the results. An alternate route is to get in touch with the dealership that sold the car new and they can pull the full spec from the Jaguar Database. If all else fails you might try getting in touch with your local dealership but results may depend on how friendly they are.

There are a number of members who have had varying degrees of success getting hold of the built spec of their cars and you can expect to get some further advice from them.

Hope the above helps though.

Cheers,

Steve

I gave my local dealer a phone, and they weren't very helpful.  Is there anyone on here who has access to the system who could do a look-up for me?

I'm afraid that if a Jaguar dealer cannot be persuaded to help you then you will need to get hold of the VIN. Is there no-one near to the car who can provide this?
