Hi my friend has a type 2.0d 2005.he pulled up on his drive then left car for 30mins went to go back out won't start.turns over but nothing not even trying to fire.so I read the codes came up camshaft position sensor.so brought one off eBay fitted it and still the same.i tried a sniff of easy start nothing. So my friend called out a Mobile mechanic who cleared codes and tested fuel pressure that was fine and he don't know what's wrong so guys any suggestions plz.

Maybe worth checking the cam chain hasn't slipped and causing the timing to be out.

Easy to check if you put a socket on the cam carrier bolt directly in sight within the engine once you remove the Oil filler cap.

If it turns with no resistance then the chain has slipped.

I have a 2006 diesel X Type which was a nightmare for starting when the engine was warm. No matter how cold the morning was the car would start on the first turn. Drive it 2 miles to the petrol station to fill up and the thing would take ages to start. Quite embarrassing.

I had it Terra-cleaned for £120 and the problem was solved straight away.

No need to do anything mechanical.

She is on 172000 now and drives nicely.

The camshaft position (CMP) sensor is located on the front of the cylinder head and it is a hall effect type sensor. The CMP sensor takes its signal from the inlet camshaft lobe. The signal is used to identify cylinder number three and thus allowing the individual cylinders to be
identified. Should the CMP sensor fail the engine will not start.
this is the worse case if this does happen, but first try fuel pump is working,  check power at the heat/glow plugs, The crankshaft position (CKP) sensor is located at the rear of the engine mounted to the cylinder block. It is used to detect the engine position and speed of the crankshaft. It is a permanent inductive type sensor. Should the CKP sensor fail, the engine will not start. just a few things to try on a 2.0d

Exactly the same a a friend.  He had been quoted £1200 to replace glow plugs and injectors.  Terraclean worked for him too.
