My 3.0 D MY 11 has recently developed an irritating rattle from the near side rear when negotiating the pot holed  strips of what used to be called roads  here in West Mids,  it's most noticeable at quite low speeds  20 to 30 mph ,  I've checked the drag links and no play can be felt , are worn damper bushes an issue  on the XF and if so are new bushes available?

Mileage is 62K mostly 'A' road and motorway driving, car recently had a service and M.O.T and nothing untoward showed up,  any ideas anyone?

If the rattle sounds metallic then it is likely a worn bush somewhere in the suspension. I wouldn't want to say bad things about MOT testers but in all honesty the fact they didn't spot an issue is a very far thing from there not being an issue. I would get it to a garage and give them a description of what is happening. They will find the issue quite quickly that way.

Hi Max,

I had bought a NEW 3.0D which developed an annoying knocking from the vacinity of the rear nearside suspension when going over badly made roads. I took it back to Jaguar at Exeter who said that they could not find anything. I then took it to Jaguar at Taunton. A member of their staff took it out with me in the passengef seat......The rattle duly appeared when going over a bad road. They then arranged a day for me to take it in for further inspection. After taking it out on the same bad road, but this time with a member of their staff sitting in the back they detected that the noise was indeed comming from the nearside rear suspension....on further investigation it turned out to be....THE REAR NEARSIDE SHOCK ABSORBER.........This was replaced under my warrantee and Low and Behold my annoying rattle/knocking was no more.

Sincerly hope that your problem is the Shock Absorber and that you can drive peacefully again in the lovely Jaguar XF.

Rgards......William

Thanks guys,  Looks very much like two new shock absorbers then,  as it sounds as mine has the same wear as yours did Max.   I suppose 62K is not that bad for suspension wear!

Regards. A.
