Hi Guys.

I think I have a major problem. Car over heated last week due to cracked radiator hose. I now a misfire on cylinder 7, I have changed the coil (no difference) and am about to change the sparkplug, but I am thinking I might have damaged the valves due to the overheat, which is causing the misfire.

any thoughts out there ?. is stripping the engine and replacing the valves a major , major job.

cheers Chrsi

Hi

Wont be a valve's due to over heat, if anything its going to be head gasket

before you tackle it, do a compression test, if the compression on all the cylinders is the same, it could be electrical still

when hoses pop, water can get every and into connectors and can take some drying out, because antifreeze wont dry and will give you problems

get a comprssion test done first

cheers

Well fitted the hose and started it up. Seemed to be a lot of steam coming from the exhausts. Tick over uneven. Took it for a drive, first six miles ran ok. Then engine management like came on again. Stopped car and checked water. Expansion tank full of bubbles. Car then decided it would not start. Couple of goes later it started and of we went home asap.

will check tomorrow but think faults agin will be "misfire" . Thinking its head gasket. Any thoughts out there

cheers Chris

Bubbles in the expansion tank sounds like a head gasket.  You may find Oil in there too.  I second the opinion on getting a compression test done - that should be relatively inexpensive and will give you a good starting point.  Depending on how badly the engine overheated you may have warped the head in which case you will need to get it machined flat as well.  That's starting to get a little pricey (don't ask me how I know 😜 )
