XF 2013 2.2L Deisel Sportbrake - Just checked my Oil level, need .5L.

How do I know if my engine has or doesn't have the particulate filter?

Apparently you need different Oil depending, or do you?

Hi Mal,

Best place to start would be your owners manual. If you do not have one you can get a download from Jaguars official web-site from your model. Lots of other stuff there too that may be interest. Check out the link below.

Cheers.

Hi Mal,

Your car does have a DPF, so just ensure you give it a longish run once a month or so.

I would also recommend you use premium fuel, as it will keep the engine cleaner and also give you a better mpg.

Your engine Oil will probably be semi synthetic W5 30. Castrol Magnatec is recommended for the s type.

Hi Mal.

Jaguar now use Shell helix ultra Low Ash C1 Oil WSS M2C 934B as Jaguar cars now have a Diesel Particulate filter like all other car manufacturer's. You need a Low Ash C1 Oil so it helps to keep the DPFilter from getting blocked. With the x type's we only add 5:5litres instead off 6 litres in case a Regeneration Fails and dumps diesel into the sump if this happens you will need to change the engine Oil and filter. I've had my x type for 5 years now and have not had any problems with the DPFilter.

I  always use Premium Diesel and try to keep Short journeys to a minimum.

Regards Tom.

Magnates 5/30 stop/start WSS M2C 913C/913D is not a Low Ash C1 Oil the number you need is WSS M2C 934B.

I had to phone Castrol who were very helpful as i got know help from jaguar, and they said that i needed a Low Ash C1 Oil WSS M2C 934B and I could only buy it from jaguar dealers in 1litre containers so i looked elsewhere.

I think that's why jaguar have gone onto Shell helix ultra WssM2C 934B C1 Oil.

Castrol Magnatec 5/30 stop/start will be a good oil for the engine but won't help with the car having a Diesel Particulate filter.

Give Castrol a Phone as they are very helpful.

Jaguar in their s type handbook recommends Castrol Magnatec W5 - 30 A1  which has a 20k miles guarantee. I change my Oil every two years whatever the mileage - usually about 10k.

I have never had a DFP warning light come on, and in my MOT last Tuesday the garage where it was tested could not get any

Peter.emissions reading until the tester revved the engine a bit.

I'm just going with what Castrol told me, Castrol Magnatec 5/30 is a A5 WSS M2C 913C/913D and not a Low Ash C1 Oil which we are supposed to use in a car with a Diesel Particulate filter.

At the time when jaguar dealers could only sell the Castrol Oil in 1 litre containers, they did suggest that i could use a C2 Low Ash Oil that i could purchase from oil suppliers.

Our indie Jaguar specialist uses, at our behest, the said Castrol Magnatec 5W-30 in our S-type 2.7D.

Note, however, that an annual change is far better, irrespective of low mileage.  Our S covers about 12K a year; lower, or much lower, mileage means that the Oil is getting polluted more than with longer journey higher mileage use.

Our '07 XK V8 X150 only covers around 1000 to 1500 miles a year, but still gets Oil and filter change annually.

Just saying!

I use millers Oil and i have found i get better mileage , i never though Oil could make a difference to fuel consumption. It also has very low ash specification. This is my 2nd jag but, because its diesel I’m worried about the dreaded DPF as everyone, plus their dogs, keep telling me it will get blocked and cost in the region of a thousand pounds or more. I found a substance called revive and you basically spray it into the air intake with car cold. The black crap that came out was incredible. It’s meant to clean the turbos but it also works on the DPF as a bonus. I now use this twice a year, regardless and, with Oil being reasonably cheap if you go on eBay or Opie Oils, they don’t just do oil either (quick web search finds them) you can get Mobil one at 1/3 price of car parts stores, i change oil every 5k miles but i drive only around 3-4 per year so i change yearly.

I have never liked Castrol and had problems in every car i used it in. Millers or gulf oil is superb and great specifications too. Well worth trying if , like me, you don’t like being told what to use. Millers has been superb in all of my cars and especially the performance cars.

I cannot recommend the revive spray highly enough. It’s around 60 pounds a but you can find it cheaper on eBay and , as long as you have someone to keep the throttle at certain revs for the first 500 ml then at different and higher revs for the last 500ml then you can do it yourself.

Jaguar XF S REMAPPED BY DMS AUTOMOTIVE to 355 bhp and around 90Nm torque higher. The remap makes is it use more fuel if you use the loud pedal but it also makes it use less in town. What a superb car this is. I had an older XJ around 1998 and vowed to never buy jaguar again but this is a beauty

That sort of stuff will clear the soot but not the deposited ash in the DPF. When it's totally blocked and the car can't regen it, then it will need to be removed and cleaned. Dealers will tell you it needs to be replaced which will cost £1000 or more, but they rarely actually fail and usually only need cleaning. I got mine done after having problems which were almost certainly due to the previous owners only doing low mileage (3k or less) every year for the previous 5 years.

I got my DPF cleaned by ukdpf.co.uk and it cost £150 + VAT for the clean and £40 + VAT for removal and refitting. Job includes a 12 month warranty and the difference is incredible.
