Sorry to trouble you but im having problems with the passenger electric window in my 05 xtype i brought recently

If i press it either on the driver's door controls or the passenger side button the one touch function doesn't work it only goes down 50mm and then it stops you have to press it again and again untill it is finally down .

To get it back up you have to click it 8 times and then it only goes up 50mm again .

Sorry to trouble you but anybody's input is most welcome.  thanks Chris

Hi Chris, and welcome to the club.

Does the one touch function work on the other doors?  If so, I would guess that the problem is with the mechanism on the passenger door.

If you feel up to it, you will have to remove the door card and then look for a bad electrical connection or some mechanical failure.

Otherwise, you should get a good mechanic to do the job for you.

Let us know how you get on.

Regards,

Peter.

Hi Chris,

Peter is spot on. Check and clean up the electrical connections first and look for any damage to the wiring, particularly where it runs through apertures in the door or around obstructions. If these all look good then it's going to be the Regulator mechanism itself - are you hearing any kind of unusual sounds from the door just before the window stops moving?

Good luck and keep us posted.

Hello peter and thank you for the kind welcome into your club.

The other Windows do indeed work perfectly ,that  was why i was hoping that it might just have been a anti figer trap sensors that might need resetting . does that sound worth a try before i go to mechanical problems ?

And if so does anyone know how to reset the anti figer trap settings ?

Thank you Peter .

Hi Chris,

It should be covered in your owners manual in the section concerning battery disconnection but check out the attached it may help. Theres also a link to Euro i this document to EuroCars for more details but I have not used this so cannot say if its more helpful.

Cheers,

Steve

Hello Steve and thank you very much for your help i should explain i only passed my driving test 1 year ago and always wanted a jaguar so my first car was also a 51 jaguar xtype but i had the 2.5 v6 sport but it was 120 000 miles old not serviced until i had it and generally not been loved , but it did have a manual but all it said was to reset the anti trap feature not much else in the battery disconnection part.

I brought this one because it is an se model all leather and had only 27 000 miles near full jaguar serviced history but no manual and this little window problem . i have tried the holding for 2 seconds but no avail , unless im not doing it right or missing something i fear i might have to get a mechanic on the case but with the help of you and peter i know what im now looking for .

many thanks again Steve

The club members are always happy to help whenever they can. Sounds like you got a good deal with the new car and I hope that this one minor issue is the only negative experience you will have with the car. It's also gratifying to hear of a youngster taking on the marque but I dread to think what your insurance premiums are even with the low book prices for older models.

Jaguar seem to have been a little remiss about providing details on the anti-trap re-set, my own manual is equally vague. I'm not sure how you're testing to see if the AT feature is/is not working but if you're not willing to use your own fingers try one of the Cadbury variety. From a personal stand-point I am rather ambivalent about the AT function, provided the windows open and close I'm happy.

Keep us posted though and keep wearing the grin - it is not an option.

Cheers,

Steve

Hi steve

It is a fantastic club and you members are very welcoming . yes i couldn't believe i got one with so low miles and service history,  a lot of my friends did say get a bmw but the thought never entered my mind i always loved jaguars and yes the insurance was pricey but so worth it , And the grin never comes off.

I have a friend coming to look at the window tomorrow i will keep you posted  .

Many thanks again Steve.

Hi Chris79. Your window problem is identical to the fault that has just developed on my X type drivers door window. Did you manage to resolve it?

Any clues as to the cause would be appreciated.

Thanks

Rob
