Almost a year now since I bought my XF so have just booked it's first service (in my care). I'm expecting an eye watering bill so was just wondering what other members thought of the Jaguar Service Plan route??

Hi Allan and Welcome to the Club,

I've purchased such service plans in the past when I've purchased a new car but in all instances the cost was heavily discounted by the dealer to win the sale. They can seem to make good economic sense when weighed against dealership service charges but when considered against the cost of a good independent garage the numbers start to look less attractive very quickly. Out of interest I took a quick look at Jaguars offerings and on balance they look ok but the 50k mileage constraint for most models, when taken into account, could produce a much higher than anticipated per unit service charge.

My personal view is that such service plans do not represent good value for money as a rule. The only exception in the case of Jaguars offering is that afforded to the 2.0L Ingenium engine models which also provides for all works associated with an MOT fail - not stated but I guess restricted to emissions failures - but even then the costs are still high in my view.

Horses for courses really depending on whether you want the apparent comfort of a dealership or whether you can find a trustworthy indie in your area. By the way theres a big thread on the site listing independent Jag specialists recommended by members. Worth checking to see if theres one i your vicinity.

Cheers,

Steve

Many thanks Steve. You've covered all of the issues that were buzzing around my head whilst thinking about this. Will also try to find that other thread. Cheers!
