I am getting rather tired of intermittent  false alarm warning lights on ABS and SRS when there is no fault on my 02 XK8. The car is low milage and well cared for, I do not want to throw any more money at these niggles............My current solution is to stick a square of black tape over them.........

QUESTION.......Can the computer be reprogrammed to switch them off permanently / can the bulbs be removed, or is there a fuse that I could pull out to get rid of these annoyances? As I drove fro long befor such things were fitted, they are not features that I value.

Hi Mike and Welcome to the Club,

It 's never a good idea to disable warning lights in my view - its just tempting providence.

If previous checks of the ABS and SRS systems have categorically proven that nothing is wrong with the sensors and associated parts I would begin to suspect the either the Instrument Binnacle or perhaps the CANBUS. Have you had the car checked out using a Jaguar specific OBD2 code reader? This could provide better clues to whats going on.

Cheers,

Steve

Thank you Steve, for your opinion but now I just want rid of the warning lights.

Yes I have had several checks at the jaguar specialist but do not want to throw any more money at it.

Hi Mike,

I am inclined to agree with Steve.  Warning lights can also be affected if the car battery is low.  I have the ABS warning light coming on and then going off, which have been easily and cheaply solved by put the battery on a charger.

Regards,

Peter.

Battery.   When you remove the old battery leave it overnight and the lights should reset.  If they dont you can buy a OBDC reading on eBay cheaply and reset them with that.
