Hi all,

2011 3.0d XF S Premium.

Last week I had the dreaded Restricted performance in red come up. Thought it might have been the DPF, but didn't say so in orange. I have just had my car hooked up to an OBD reader & here are the results.

P00BD Mass Or Volume Air Flow A Circuit Range/Performance

P1247 Turbocharger Boost Pressure Low

P0235 Turbocharger/Supercharger Boost Sensor A Circuit

P22D2 Turbocharger Turbine Inlet Valve Stuck Open

P22CF Turbocharger Turbine Inlet Valve Control Circuit - Open

Help please, any advice would be gratefully appreciated.

Hi Stuart and Welcome to the Club,

I'm no expert when it comes to modern diesels but with that list I would start my investigation and repair work with the 'P22D2 Turbo Turbine Inlet Valve Stuck Open and P22CF TT Inlet Valve Control Circuit - Open' as the probable root cause - the others may prove merely to be symptoms of these.

We have any number of members with more intimate knowledge of the diesel models and I'm sure you will be hearing from them soon, however, my suggestion above may be a good starter for 10.

It was mentioned to me that the problem might stem from P00BD Mass Or Volume Air Flow A Circuit Range/Performance.

I might wait until I hear from a couple more Jag enthusiasts who may be in the know.

From what i have discovered during my RP issue over the last 3 weeks, start looking at the following...

 

Remove undertray, check that the valve operating the airflow from the intercooler, via its hoses is operating correctly. There is a name for this widget, but it escapes me at the moment.

Remove and check the MAP sensor on the throttle body housing, its a small rectangular sensor at the rear of the unit, held in by one torx screw. NB... DO NOT use electrical cleaner to clean out the contacts, nor carb cleaner as it destroyed mine.

Look for any signs of Oil contamination over the injectors on the OS cylinder head cover (remove main engine cover and carefully peel back the injector sound proofing to view)

Check for Oil leaks around the bottom hose going to the intercooler NSF, check for the same on the OSF inter cooler.

Check for any Oil leaks around the base of the throttle body housing, near to the oil filter and coolant housing, this would indicate a split at the rear.

Hopefully, this will put you on the path to enlightenment, i started off with a similar MAF sensor issue, which turned out to be a cracked cam cover, thankfully replaced before i even started replacing sensors like a mad man....

I am sure there will be more additions from members who have suffered similar issues...

Hi folks,

I also have restricted performance :(  2010 XF 3.0D S portfolio  95k mileage.  This happens mostly between 1800 to 2000 RPM with gentle throttle pressure, but occassionally does happen under hard acceleration.

I have had a smoke test done (not convinced by it though) and nothing was shown.

I have cleaned both MAF sensors (one was very dirty)

I have cleaned the MAP sensor which was very oily

There is Oil visible between the heads - more so on the right side (primary egr side, left side of the vehicle, near side), but no visible cracks on either manifold, and nothing visible on the throttle body.

I have tightened the 2 bolts attaching the plastic tube from turbo to intercooler

Given the following codes, I suspect the actuator arm on the turbo bypass (under engine by sump) - it is moveable, but seems stiff - I can use a bar and push it from above (through top of engine bay).  

Both EGR valve actuator arms arm moveable fairly easily - I'm not sure how much resistance there should be though.

Codes that show on my OBD scanner :- P006A and P00BF

I had a local garage also scan for codes, and they unearthed the following.

P115A low fiuel
P2459 DPF Regen blocked
P0235 Turbocharger/Supercharger Boost Sensor A Circuit
P00AA Intake Air Temperature Sensor 1 Circuit (Bank 2)
P22D4 Turbocharger (TC) inlet valve 
P244B DPF differental pressure
P2458 DPF
B11DB Battery Monitoring Module
P065B generator control circuit
P22C5 Turbocharger (TC) outlet valve 
P060B Internal control module analogue to digital processing performance
P22D2 Turbocharger (TC) inlet valve 
P22CF Turbocharger (TC) inlet valve 
P2192 System too rich at higher load Bank 1

I would clear all the codes and recheck after a run, sounds mostly soot related though. Check your battery/alternator voltage too. By the way, I have the factory workshop manual in PDF format, just let me know if you want a copy.

I have just the club I  have been having a few issues with Amber ristricted performance light flashing up normally when the car had pulled up at lights or in traffic or pulling up at junctions only ever flickered on for a few seconds then goes out I have taken my xf to a local indi jag garage after a week of them and me pulling hair out they have changed both egr valves port inlet valves and maf and map sensors they have now got a regeneration going so pick up car on Monday so fingers crossed

Hi Ivan, and welcome to the club.

It sounds to me that you have a fuel system issue.  I am assuming you have the Diesel Version with the 2.7 litre  Diesel engine, the same as I do. 

I use premium fuel and put a shot of Millers Diesel Power Eco Max into the fuel tank every month or so, which keeps bothe the EGR valves and the DPF clean, and I also give the car a long run once a month or so.  I have never had a problem.

Hi new to club. I get restricted performance on my XF 2011 3 lt when I go over 3000 revs. I switch off and wait 10 mins and it goes off. Having said that,there is no reduction in power. Any help would be helpful.

Hi All, new to club.

I have 2010 3.0l XF premium Luxury with red Restricted Performance and local garage telling me that fault code P006a is Turbo Actuator fault and needs engine removed to get to part and that they can't do it so to take to Jag specialist who recommend replacing both turbos (complete units) while engine is out quoting min £3000.00 any help would be much appreciated.

Hi get a smoke test done i did inlet manifold cracked just got it back I was told more you run on RP the more your DPF will fill up.

Hi, 

so I’m having the same dreaded RP mode on my Xf 3.0. I’m seeing Oil contamination around the injector on driver side. Just curious if you think this is a cracked inlet manifold? When plugged in it’s showing up mass air flow and low boost pressure
