Hi All,

Driving around in the course of my business I've been getting a Warning 'Boot Open' and a red light. No need to say that the boot was firmly shut and the warning came and went all day! It even sparked off the alarm when I locked the car.

Anyone come across this fault before?

Cheers,

Nick

Hi Nick,

Sorry but I have never come across this one myself. That, said have you checked around the boot lock - which I presume is where any sensor may be located - to see if there is any rubbish that may be blocking the sensor or preventing complete closure of the lock gate?

Best I can think of but would be interested in knowing what the final cause is.

Cheers,

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the contributions, much appreciated.

Believe it or not, over the last two days there have been no 'Boot Open' warnings (typical S-type). However, I'm taking no chances and have ordered a Boot Latch Assembly. The suppliers said that a faulty internal micro-switch was the most likely cause of the warning. Anyway, it wasn't very expensive, so I'll give it a go.

I'll report back after fitting.

Cheers,

Nick

Well I've fitted the boot latch without too much bother. So far, no 'Boot Open' warnings! BUT what I have noticed is that during the hot weather, especially direct sunlight, the temporary false warnings increase. Locking the car can also be a problem, as it just opens itself immediately and I have to lock manually with the key! Jags are certainly a challenge...

What warning lights are you getting Nick?

I've just had a 'Parking Brake Failure' warning. It lasted about 10 minutes and during that time, the parking brake did not work. After turning the engine off for a while, I restarted and the warning had gone and the brake worked normally for quite a long trip. I'm really scratching my head now!

Hi Nick,

At a very rough guess it is a battery issue.  I had a similar experience and found that it was a faulty connection with the negative terminal of the battery. Solved for £8.

Hi

its worth checking your boot dry as well

some s-type are prone to leaking from the rear lights. damp gets into the modules and can cause random faults

worth checking your battery though, as Peter says, biggest cause of problems on the S-type

cheers

The battery is an original Jaguar but I don't know how old it is as there doesn't appear to be a datestamp on it. Perhaps it might be worth changing it and cleaning up the leads at the same time. Any favourite battery makes?

Hi Nick,

An s type battery [and other models] will last about 5 years.  I am on my third battery, which is a Platinum.      There are quite a few other makes.  My local accessory shop sourced my battery when it was giving me a problem,   and he also fitted it.  When it was fitted I put a date note  on the battery, although I don't expect that I will  get another car, as I like the s type so much, and I am now 84.

Regards,

Peter.
