Hi everyone, I’ve had my 2012 Portfolio 2.2D for a few weeks now.  Now, I’m well aware that official figures, and, real world numbers rarely compare. But, I’m getting pretty poor returns so far.

I’ve just done a 500 mile trip, mainly motorway, not driving “enthusiastically”, and averaged 42.3 mpg.

On the stop-start daily commute, I’m only getting 30 mpg.

Is this the norm?

Hi Matt,

Two weeks ago I went to Weymouth for a quiet holiday.  About 120 miles on the M5 with usual heavy traffic in places and about 50 miles on a mix of mostly single carriageway and some dual carriageway. I got 44.5 mpg driving down and 44.4 mpg coming back.  I only used Cruise control now and then because of the speed controls on Smart Motorway sections.

Local short runs and ordinary use I get around 30 mpg.  I have the S Type 2.7 litre diesel , so I reckon that what you get is OK.  I did get 50.2 mpg on an 80 mile drive with 50 mpg speed limit on the M1.  If you cruised at a similar speed you would probably get the same, plus some salutes from motorists behind you.

Regards,

Peter.

I haven't done any long runs yet, but around town type of driving I'm getting about 35 mpg  - if the on-board computer is giving fairly accurate info of course.   I never believe manufacturers claimed mpg as I've got anywhere near it in any car that I've owned.

Matt,

I have the same model as yourself First Registered  Dec 2102 MY 2013 2.2d Portfolio, I have only had it 9 weeks and live in a small town so have not had a lot of City driving but have been in the Centre of Edinburgh a couple of times.   Just generally knocking about locally I am getting the mid to high 40s, I have had one Motorway run of around 85 miles with cc set at 72mph and it returned 59.9mph,  calculating the fuel used to the mileage travelled it works out at an average of around 47mpg, which is a massive boost from my previous wheels (Volvo XC90)

Thanks everyone. Well, it looks like I’m getting the same average returns as most. Still, compared to the 16mpg my dad was getting from his XJ6’s in the ‘70’s, it’s not too shabby.

Matt,

Certainly not too shabby Mat I used to have a 2.5v6 AWD X-Type (a couple of cars back) it used to return around 23mpg.
