Hi; my name's Frank, it seems there's another Frank on here, so I'm Frank2

My first car was a Triumph 2000, I now have a Jaguar XJ.

Loving it so far!

Welcome to the Club, Frank.

Your XJ is the Jaguar Flagship car, and rightly so.  The Jaguar experience is quite unique  and you can feel that when you drive.

I hope you also enjoy the club and share experiences.

Regards

Peter.  [There were two of us, also]

Thanks Peter; you're right, it's like a magic carpet!

I haven't even put fuel in it yet (it was half full when I got it)

Hi Frank,

If your car is a diesel, make sure you use premium fuel  --  a class car deserves top fuel!

What part of Lancashire do you live?  I was born and lived for 33 years in Widnes before seeking fame and fortune elsewhere.

Regards,

Peter.

Yes; it's a Diesel, I've never had a diesel before, so please suggest which fuel and any additives you'd use (in the tank or the sump)

I'm in Clayton - Le - Woods, between Preston and Chorley.

Hi Frank,

When I was living in Widnes I used to cycle around your area  --  a nice day out with fresh air instead of the smell of sulphuric Acts.

I use Shell V Power , although BP premium fuel is good.  I have a Shell Station just up the road.  I also use Millers Eco Plus [Diesel] in the tank once every second or third fill up.  I find it gives you a better mpg and it does keep your Diesel Particulate filter clean, and stops the EGR valves getting sticky, as well giving you a smooth ride.  Going down to Dorset last month I got 44.5mpg on the way down and  44.4 mpg on the way back mostly at between 60 and 70 mph.

Regards,

Peter.

I just filled up with bp Ultimate, I went as soon as the light came on and it took £105 worth and is now showing a range of 550 miles, the mpg (according to the trip computer is 42 mpg (not been on a run yet, so I'm quite impressed)

Did you ever go to Cuerden Valley Park? It's just by me and a lovely place!

Hi; thanks for the welcome.

My heated seat wasn't working yesterday, it's fine today;

I think it locked me out because of my luggage on the back seat (blocked vent or something)

Toasty!

Hi Frank,

I am afraid I never went to Cuerden Valley Park --  cyclists in a Club never seemed to go to places of beauty, just paces where they could get a cold beer and a cheese sandwich.

My aim is usually to try to beat the computer on a long run mainly by driving with cruise control on at 70 mph on a motorway.  I always fill up when the light comes on or if the local Shell Station has put the price down.

Regards,

Peter.

Hmm; can you beat your own cruise control? Perhaps by letting it speed up on down hill stretches and slowing slightly up hills.....

On the instantaneous reading, mine seems better at 70mph than at 60mph, I'l have to try that again to make sure!

Cheers.

No, Frank, I meant beat the computer estimate, so for 42 mpg I would be looking for 43+ mpg.

Cruise control will give you the best mpg as it will choose the most appropriate gear.

The big diesel runs very smoothly at 70 mph and on the s type around 2000 rpm on he flat, and not much more going uphill.

Peter.
