Radio illumination

Hi all i have an x300 xj6 and the lamps behind the radio facia have failed with the exception of the lcd display.
Is there anyone out here on the site that has experiance of replacing the bulbs, 
I am
currently looking at installing some 12volt low power led lamps on the j gate surround trim that will illuminate the radio when it is dark.
