Good evening to everyone, I'm new to the Jag Forum, so Hi all members.

Can anyone give genuine advice on why the stop/start on the 2.0 T XF fails to activate (apart from the obvious reasons given in the manual). Up until a few weeks ago working fine, now dash showing the Auto S/S inhibit (white) symbol (Auto SS not currently available). Have driven the car without radio, fans, heating etc, so that all unnecessary accessories are switched off, auto s/s still not cutting in.

Car is 12 months old with 4,000 miles otc.

Has anyone experienced the same issue and a fix please, or is this a Jaguar fault that needs the dealership to rectify. Is there a second battery that needs charging??? I have contacted Stratstone but have to wait until November before they can look at it.

My stop/start has never worked since I bought the car back in August !    I know it's not the battery as a new one was fitted prior to collection.     To be honest, I'm not too worried about it as there are enough electronics in the vehicle  taxing the battery already and it would just be an additional drain.

Paul, it would appear from your mileage that you don’t do many miles in the average week. Can you please describe the typical types of journeys done in a normal week.

Given the time of year when this has happened, my first thought would be that your battery isn’t getting to charge on long enough journeys to keep it in prime condition. If that is the case, get yourself a CTEK (or similar) battery conditioner, and give it a full 24 hour charge once every week or so. You don’t need to remove the battery to do this.

Many thanks for the reply Leo. Actually I did wonder whether this was the main issue...Generally I travel only short journeys,  Friday 6, Monday 7.5, Tuesday 8.8. Some days it may not move for 2-3 days, we use wife's car.Total XF mileage since purchasing car last September 2017 is 3966 13 months. I did give it a run on Sunday 22 miles thinking that this could be an issue. I have looked at the CTEK MXS 5.0 Amazon £69, presumably this is ok for the XF. Are there 2 batteries in the car, or one main one????, and is it/they located in the boot as I have read on different forums. If there is only 1 battery do you charge from terminals under bonnet or in the boot, never had XF before so not sure. One again thanks for replying Leo

Paul, yes the CTEK MXS 5.0 will be a good choice. You can get them with comfort leads, which you attach permanently to the battery, and provide you with a socket simply to plug in to when you want to use it. You would connect it to the main battery.

On the XK the battery is in the boot. I did have an XF some years ago, but to my surprise I really can’t remember where the battery was..... Probably because I was doing a high mileage, and never had to think about it!
