Much reduced service intervals on 2016 XJ

My car will be 3 years old in March so keen to get to the bottom of my issues whilst still under warranty.

My last service was completed (2 year) in March 2018. That was just 4500 miles ago. Then the service indicator told me I needed a service in 1000 miles.

I booked it in at Harwoods and was told that the Oil was working hard due to the exhaust filter. I was given a complimentary Oil change the the service internal was re-set to 16k.

One month and less than 1000 miles later, my car is telling me I need an Oil service in less than 8000 miles.

The car has only done 22k and it gets a 50 mile plus run at >60mph at least once a week.

Any ideas

Hi Colin, and welcome to the club.

My car is 11 years old and came off the production line on the 13th March 2007.  Every year in March I get a message on the message centre on the dashboard  --  Service required in xxxx miles.  Since my car was stored in Main Dealers for three months waiting for a buyer no-one told it that it should be serviced when it was sold.  I just delete the message and continue getting my car serviced at the beginning of June every year.

There is a method of removing the message on the s type -- I don't know about the XJ.  I am sure Harwoods would delete the message for you are tell you how to do it yourself.

But not to worry.

Regards,

Peter.

  • 11 months later...

I have a late 2016 XJ and it’s always asking for a service.  Almost everything sets it off, like the adblue warning, I top the tank, the ad lie warning goes, but the service message is still there... mine is du it’s service soon, I’ll raise it and let you know how I get on.

Hi Colin

I’m getting short service intervals on my 2018 XJ. Did you get a resolution to yours?
