I need to lay up my 2007 Xk for a few months and will disconnect the battery as I don't have access to a power supply will I have any issues when I reconnect the battery

Hi Rob,

Whichever way you go you could have to reset your settings.  Will you fully charge up the battery before you lay up your car, and will you keep you car undercover or will it remain outside?

It could be worth looking at a solar charger big enough to keep you battery at a reasonable level.

Peter.

Yes the battery will have a full charge before being disconnected and unfortunately will be left outside,I like the idea of the solar charger but I'm not sure what size i would need,as i am not sure how much power drain for the alarm and anything else the car has when it is locked up.

Hi Robert,

Most solar chargers will give a trickle but not necessarily full charge the big battery on a XK.  There are bigger ones though, and googling around should throw one up that  will be big enough to keep the battery alive for two months.

I would try to keep the battery in the car and tucked away in a warm part of my drive.

Regards,

Peter.

hi

you would be better off with a smart charger like a ctek

I know you said you have no supply there, but you could extend the cables, so it could reach another building with a supply

as longs as its the 12 volts leads and there fused close to the battery

if you can keep the car powered up, you less likely to get any issues with faults and electronics prefer to be kept powered up

also on the matter of solar chargers there ok, but there not smart, they will put a voltage out, wheather the battery flat or fully charged, so they can also overcharge the battery and boil it dry

cheers

Joe

I will need about 2 miles of cable so that route is a big no no,and its not a solar panel direct to the battery it runs through a control unit into a smart charger that looks after the battery just like a ctek or any other smart charger.
