well I sold the old jag x type with 190 thousand on the clock and still got a good price, I have another one now its a 2009 Jaguar X-type Se Dci, 2198CC Diesel, 4DR, Auto and she looks lovely i will be collecting her on Wednesday from Sheffield so i cant wait, in the meantime maybe someone can tell me the best place to get Car matts from and ones for the exact fit as i seem to be searching and finding two different shapes on offer also if anyone can advise, where to go for the cheapest insurance. Try Provident Motor Insurance - I reduced my X-type premium from a renewal premium of £510

down to an unsolicited £337 - I have no claims history.

Unfortunately my X-type although mint condition 'above the ground' inside and out was MOT 

rejected for underneath cills  having corroded beyond repair 

Following a period of mourning (and searching) I have replaced it with an XF -  again with a very good

and competitive premium.

I advise 'try 'em'  - nothing to lose.

Welcome to the forum Neal.

I have a Sovereign 2:2 6 speed auto, with this auto we have a Diesel Particle filter and the engine Oil that should be used is a Low Ash C1 Oil the number is WSS M2C 934 B and this number is not mentioned in the Handbook. They fitted the DPFilter to get the emissions down and it was fitted as a optional extra on the manual gearbox and they never told jaguar dealer's what Oil should be used, Miller Oils used to get Dealer's asking them what oil should be used.

There has been some debate about what Diesel should be used, some jaguar owner's add some additives to normal diesel and other's use Premium Diesel which i try to use at least every other tankfull.

Some members like to change all fluids and filters after they have bought there car and they then know that it's something less to worry about.

They say the auto gearboxes are sealed for life which is not true, the gearbox is an Aisin Warner make and to change the fluid it is best to get it connected to a Hot Flushing Machine, i had mine changed at Mackies Auto Transmissions in Glasgow in July 2014 and cost £154 pounds and will probably get it changed again this July.

When a Regeneration of the Diesel Particle filter is taking place it's sometimes difficult to know that it's happening, the way i know it's happening is the engine Revs will be about 150 higher than normal when the engine is idling and when a Regeneration is happening don't switch the engine off and carry on driving till the Revs are back to normal, i usually check the Revs at a junction or at a roundabout and in 6 years i've only had to carry on driving 3 times. Another thing would be a burning smell or the exhaust could sound louder than normal as if there's a hole in it.

You have a nice looking x type ,they're great cars so i hope you have many years enjoying it.

Hi Rod, I forgot to mention that some owner's also see less miles per gallon due to more diesel being used when a Regeneration is taking place, but personally i've never noticed the difference.

Also i like to give it some Revs now and again especially coming of a roundabout, my mechanic who does the service always tells me that Diesel engines are meant to be driven and not to drive with the revs below 2,000 all of the time. I've never had any problems with the egr valve and have never experienced any problems with the turbo, so i don't know if it's the way that i drive the car or if it's to do with using premium diesel .

Very good ride and engine response, very smooth. J gate shifting allows manual operation, but Drive worked great. Like many convertibles, doesn't like bridge expansion joints, but absorbs them better than many. This one came with the optional 19 Apollo rims, so have to take that into consideration (less rubber to absorb bumps and cracks). So far has been very reliable, with 32k on the odometer. I too have just bought an X Type 2.2 diesel on a 59 plate ( same colour ) so i understand it will have the dipf filters mentioned as its a late model. Its interesting to read about the regeneration Tom talks about i had no idea. I have booked it in with the Jag Man a local indie Jag specialist near me for a full service  and i have inquired about changing the auto box Oil, the car has done 80,000 miles . I had a E39 5 series BMW on a W reg a few years back and there was always debate about whether you should or shouldn't change the Oil The Jag Man says you should and Tom backs this up so i will have it done

It unfortunately developed a fault on the way back which after diagnostics turns out to be the Turbo Actuator has failed causing limp mode, gearbox fault message and heater plug lights to flash The dealer i bought the car from is paying for this under warranty. I love the car and am very happy with it The MPG is not great but i blame that on the fault and car in limp mode Should i be expecting around 48 mpg extra urban? Or am i being greedy? It currently giving around 42

So very strange of things happening in threes! I have also just (last Sunday) purchased a 58 plate 2.2 D estate in the same colour. Loving it. The actuator etc and limp mode issue had been addressed before I bought it (fingers crossed!). The retro feel is great. Mileage I'm getting is about 45 long run - mix it with urban driving and it does drop. Although just serviced the 'sevice required' pops up. I think re-setting the service mode can be challenging. I might for peace of mind get it looked over in any case.

Ha, yes things happening in threes Alan. I agree the retro feel is great i have always had older cars as my daily drivers mainly Mercedes but i had a 98 XJ8 for a while but it was crumbling before my eyes so it had to go

Unfortunately i became ill a few months back and sold my old CLK 320 and bought a Pug 3008 for sensible reliability and although a perfectly good car i cant bond or attach to it so i have always liked the X type and although relatively modern it has that classic feel, i really love it. Your  MPG sounds like mine so it must be right, its certainly better than the CLK ( 21 to 28 ) Hope your X behaves itself and hopefully mine will once the issues are sorted

Hi Chris, I have the same model now with 140000 on the clock but still a great car to drive. Bit of a hard ride but this gives great road holding. Good fuel consumption in the mid 40s. Had all the same issues as you but still love it. enjoy yours.

Just realised my profile photo was me not the car🙄🤦‍♂️. Car more important than me! Common problem seems to be waist seals on the windows. Does anyone know of reputable suppliers and are they reasonably easy to self fit? Also same for car mat suppliers. There appears to be a plethora of on-line sellers. Just need the right ones at the right price!

Hi Rod Yes the ride is a little hard but as you say holds the road great Once i get the issues sorted i want to take her over Snake Pass which is a great driving road from Manchester to Sheffield. I dont mind paying for the service and maybe the box Oil to be changed as the dealer has agreed to pay for the faults to be fixed If i can in the Autumn i fancy doing the NC500 around Scotland and the X type will be perfect for that

Thanks guys for your advice and comments. It'll be interesting with the Jag. I do about 20k a year. I've just sent back my 5 series BMW  2 litre diesel after 3 years with 64k on the clock! Cost me a kidney or two in excess mileage😪. The new car is now kept at home with the Jag being thrown in at the deep end so to speak. I've felt more in touch with this car already  - weird! I've had classics in the past- Stag, 1963 MGA and a MG J2. My wife didn't like any of these, but is quite animated about the Xtype. Like I said it's in at the deep end. It'll be looked after on the way, but I guess any issues will unfold fairly quickly!

I've lost so many house points in the past with my interest in older models! 😏 This seems to be a working compromise - so far! 

 

I'll be going up to Oldham next month and then crossing over to God's own country after that. I'm looking forward to that part of the journey.

I live in France, near Cognac. Bought my X type 2.2 diesel estate five years ago. Lovely car to drive even though it is a bit hard on the low profile tyers. It has now done 108k miles.and has been relatively trouble free except this year the ERG failed. Although all my normal servicing is done by the local Ford garage this time it had to go to a Jaguar main dealer which cost me around £1k to fix but they did clean the Particulate filter at the same time. As the car had to be towed onto the transporter the front towing bolt was used and the driver lost the cover. I have bought a new one but can't get it to fit. Any ideas anyone??
