Like a lot of people, my XF has been suffering from a fault in the boot wiring. In my case the boot opening switch was inoperative, although others have reported rear camera or numberplate lighting faults.

I disconnected the loom at the boot lid and stripped it out so I could examine the obvious pinch point in the flexible conduit.

Who uses stiffish 22AWG wire in a loom subject to frequent acute flexing?

I found two wires completely cut and had to cut and crimp five further wires that were holding on by one strand.

That will do pro tem but I think I'm going to make up a new loom with more appropriate wire as a permanent solution.

I could replace the loom with a new Jaguar loom but that seems to me to be asking for the same trouble again.

Nil points to whoever specified that wiring 馃槥

Hi Paul,

In the book "Saving Jaguar" by Sir John Egan he mentions that a certain supplier of electrical parts was sending inferior parts to manufacturers which would need replacing after a short time. 聽This supplier would get more money from a recall than the part would cost.

Inferior parts from some suppliers in other industries is also well known by those fitting 聽the parts.

Regards,

Peter.
