first post here, so be gentle!

In my family we have a 1995 XJ6 3.2 sport auto. This has the straight six engine, not the later V8.   We have owned this car since about 1997 but are currently mulling over a choice between restoration and selling as a restoration project.

On the plus side it is low mileage (less than 40K), has a very clean leather interior, has good tyres on it and is in  good mechanical order, with a good service history. It has the correct period jaguar stereo, with CD changer in the boot.  It is a nice colour combination; British racing green with light coloured (not quite cream, not sure of the official colour designation) leather.  On the minus side the car is 'cosmetically challenged' in various ways; the main problem is that clear coat is bad, It also has a sagging headliner and one or two other external blemishes.

I can post some pictures of the car if that is of interest.  Any advice/suggestions as to the best way ahead would be very welcome.

thanks in advance for any comments

Hi Bruce, and welcome to the Club.

It sounds like your XJ is well worth saving, but restoration is not something to undertake lightly. The very fact that you are not sure what to do suggests to me that you may be better to sell as a restoration project: Otherwise you are likely to spend money starting the project, and end up selling halfway through, when you won’t recoup what you have spent.

I did consider building a Caterham years ago: I would have loved to have done it, but in my heart of hearts I knew that it would probably sit in the garage for a year or more unfinished.
