I picked the car up on tuesday.

On Wednesday on the way home the DPF FULL SEE HANDBOOK warning came on. I took it for a drive and about 30 mins later it went out.

Tonight I went to the chippie and on the way home it came on again. Drove for about 40-50 minutes,  even putting in sport mode to keep the revs up, but it refuses to go out this time.

Also the car is VERY sluggish.

Any ideas?

Hi Devilfish

I have had a good old head banging with Jaguar over the DPF. If you have the DPF FULL red warning light on the car will not do a passive regeneration. That means it will not regen whilst driving.

I had this Red Warning light recently and after taking it to Jaguar was told ithe DPF needed replacing at a cost of £3993.00. (According to their JLR diagnostic equipment)I subsequently took it to a DPF specialist near me who fixed it for £90.00.

In a nutshell.....your ECU guesses the Soot and Ash values  in the DPF based on driving habits etc.If it gets to a certain level it will perform a passive regeneration whilst you are driving. If the journey you are doing is not long enough to get everything up to temperature to burn off the soot it will not regenerate. If it does not do a regen it then thinks it is full and subsequently gived the dreaded FULL red warning.

I took Mine to Fitch Autos who were brilliant. They did all the tests to confirm it was not full and then did a manual check with a Manometer to confirm there was actually very little soot in there. The soot counters were reset then when it was driven it performed its own regeneratin and works perfectly now.

HOWEVER...it has to be checked properly. You cannot just reset the counters as this can cause a fire and serious damage. The values have to be calculated and ckecked by professionals mate.

hope this helps....if you need the details of the DPF place i went to let me know

Welcome to the club, Gareth.

Your post was a great one for a first post, and very useful.  The content you have given is a MUST!

I have never had an issue with the DPF even though I do a lot of short runs and I guess that the reason for that is to make sure you do a long run   --  half an hour with the speed over 45 mph [ use the manual gears to keep the revs up].

I also use Premium Fuel  and an additive [Millers Eco+ diesel] on very full tank fill up.

Please out on the details of the DPF place you went to.

Regards,

Peter.

Fitch Autos (RAC approved garage & DPF specialists)

Unit 5, Fitch autos ltd

Industrial estate

Brownhills

Walsall WS8 6JT

This place that fixed mine were brilliant. Very knowledgeable about DPF's and saved me £3990.00. I am still in discussion with JLR over there diagnostic equipmnet and or Technicians.

They are still claiming the technicians did what the equipment told them to do. My arguement is that regardless what the equipmnet said, the DPF did not need replacing. Had the technicians had deeper knowledge they could of done the further checks etc.

I have since been told the DPF's are only about £2000.00 to jag but they doubled the price!!

Thanks Gareth.

That garage is quite close to where I live in Sutton Coldfield.  Should the horrible thing happen to me it is only 20 minutes away.

I will keep a copy in my file should anyone need to use them.

I was quoted £174 + VAT for a Jaguar diagnostic test to locate a faulty parking sensor.  My mobile mechanic did it for nothing , although I did give him a tenner for coming out in the evening.

Regards,

Peter.

They were going to charge me £188 for the diagnostic check on the DPF. I reminded them it was in for a major service and that i knew for a fact it goes on the diagnostic machine during the service to check for any faults. Subsequently they didnt charge me......

Hi Gareth,

I have used a mobile mechanic for over 18 years to do all the work on my cars.  He does a great job and has never let me down.  He has a very top class diagnostic system, and good if not better than any main dealer.

He is collecting my S Type on Monday morning [7.00 am] to fit a failed parking sensor and he will return it later in the morning,  And it is not an easy job and the rear bumper has to come off.

Regards,

Peter.

Hi all,

I have a Jaguar XF. When I get the DPF red light it usually takes an 1-hour drive on the motorway to clear it. But last time it happen, I tried twice driving for an hour but the red light did not clear. I was almost at the point of taking the car to the garage for a manual clean but i decided to give it another go but this time I went for a longer 2-hour drive on the motorway. And to my delight, the red light disappeared.

So if you get a DPF red light don't be discouraged. Go for a long drive on the motorway doing between 50-70mph and the problem will be solved.

I hope this helps someone.

Sounds like a reasonably dear method of clearing a light .
