Low revs droning and vibration

Hi everyone. Please help!

I have recently purchased a 2014 XF Rsport auto 2.2D. Love the car but I have an annoying droning noise and vibration and at low revs from underneath the car. It kicks in at 1250 revs and up until 1500 revs. It seems to be more apparent at lower speeds. It is a deep drone almost like being sat on a subwoofer accompanied by a vibration. It is almost as if the engine is laboring, like it is in too high a gear. Once the gearbox drops down a notch, the revs increase and the sound disappears. Sometimes it's worse than others but is driving me nuts. I have had the exhaust checked out and all seems to be fine. I was a tyre fitter for 11 years, so I know it isn't the tyres. The car drives great but it does have this slight droning sound all the time in the background going on, which is at its worse at around 30mph and 1250 revs. Anyone experienced the same thing?

Please could you help?

Many thanks.

Hi

This is my first visit and looking for info on a similar problem with my 2017 xf. It happens at 1250rpm whichever gear I am in and accelerate gently. Kick down and it clears.

Sorry it doesn't help either of us but will get back if anything discovered.

Cheers Stewart

Hi Stewart.

Thanks for the response. My car is in at the garage tomorrow, so If they find anything, I'll obviously let you know. The garage where I bought it had it back but couldn't find anything. To be honest, I'm not sure they even looked, so i took it to my local garage and they did find a couple of half tightened bolts holding on the DPF but i t hasn't cured the problem. I taking it to an independent Jaguar garage tomorrow, to see if they can figure it out. I'll keep you posted.

Regards Jon.

Hi Stewart.

Not much to report really.

The garage i took it to looked all over the car but couldn't find anything wrong with it. They did hear the drone though and agreed that it seems to be staying in to high a gear for too long, causing the car to labour. They suggested I contact Jaguar direct to see if there is a software update for the gearbox. I contacted Jaguar today and they said there might well be an update but they couldn't tell until they plugged it in. £168 just to check was what they quoted. I'm still thinking about what to do next but it seems my only option.

Will keep you informed.
