Hi Forum,

I have just joined the community.

I have been overseas for a while and back in the UK (Lucky to get a flight back in these difficult times).

I don't yet have a Jag, but I always envied the one a guy at work had. An X-type estate.

I have been trawling around the usual suspects websites, and there are some decent X-type estates for sale. I have also read differing opinions on engines.

What is the view on the forum here, before I part with any cash? Diesel, petrol? Engine size?

I am a bit of a luddite when it comes to gearboxes, I always drive a manual.

Any help, advice, gratefully received.

Welcome to the club, Jeff,

The x type has quite few engines in its car, and a lot depends on what you want to do with an estate.

I had an X Type saloon which had a 2.5 litre Petrol AWD engine with a manual gearbox. A very enjoyable and roomy car and held the road like glue.

My son has a Jaguar estate with the 2,0 diesel engine which is very reliable although I do find it rather noisy.  The 2.2 diesel engine is quieter.

In these times of demonising diesels I would think about a petrol engine even though I have a remarkably quiet 2.7 diesel s type!

Regards,

Peter.

Hi Jeff, I have a 2009 x type estate that I bought in 2015 with 92k on the clock. It has now done 147k. Its a 2.2 diesel auto. Its a really good car to drive with plenty of performance.

I`m involved in motor sport and visit most of the circuits towing a fifteen foot caravan without any problem. Its had all the usual problems like wheel bearings, EGR valves etc but as long as you use premium fuel and an additive at every other fill up you wont have any trouble. Most of my trips are a minimum of 7 miles but occationally I take it for a blast in manual mode just to clean things out.Hope this helps.

Cheers

Thanks for the replies chaps, really appreciate you taking the time with me as a newbie.

I'm still looking, but in self Isolation. I'm not going anywhere soon, so still have a lot to think about.

It's definitely going to be a manual and an estate. Would like to find one near me on the South coast!
