Hello here’s one for you auto electritions. The battery on my XF is 10 years old.after a few days standing it is strong enough to start the car. But within that time the alarm sounds on the car. Could this due to the battery being old due to voltage drop I have replaced the bonnet switch and  the door locks seem to be ok as is the boot any ideas many thanks

hi

at a guess its because the battery voltage is that low

you either need to use a smart charger to top it up when not in use or a new battery

but with the lockdown at the moment, I'd use a smart charger even with the new battery to protect it

ctek smarts charger work really well

cheers

Joe

  • 1 month later...

Hi

I have a 2002 S Type 2.6. i have had a new battery twice in the last month the first went dead and was diagnosed with a dead cell by the RAC.

I replaced with a new  one which was delivered under charged. I charged the new battery and put in in the car. After 5 days i restarted the car only for numerous warning lights to come on including the battery light. All the lights immediatelyly went off when i started driving the car. Any suggestion anyone? This battery problem is driving me nuts.

Thank you

You most likely have a parasitic drain on the battery from a defect within the car. These can be troublesome to track down.

A few things to check, there is a little flap on the ignition barrel, when the key is removed it should close. Check all auto functions are switched off. Make sure you double lock the car when left unattended, even when in a garage.

In the meantime, a CTEK battery maintainer will help keep the battery fully charged.
