Hi,

I need to replace my park brake actuator due to the nylon gears inside the unit being worn.

Does anyone know if the actuator from the XF will fit?  They look identical apart from the cable which is shorter but I would hope to be able to swap this from my S Type actuator as the cable is okay.

The reasons I want to use the XF actuator is 1) they are newer and hopefully not as worn, and 2) they are approximately half the cost as the S Type ones on a well known auction site.

Any advice much appreciated.

I have looked at 2nd hand actuators but will be buying new since the price difference is not that great. Also an actuator from an xf is still 10 years old so the chances of it being worn are high. Part number for new(!) Parkbrake is C2C40572, which is suitable for:-

S-Type VIN range: From M45255 to END OF RANGE
XF VIN range: From START OF RANGE to R47153
X150 (Except Portfolio models) VIN range: From B00379 to B33388
X350 VIN range: From VIN G48774 to H30499 (2002-10)

Naturally, you will think how wonderful there are all these Jaguars that have a compatible part. But chasing them on the well known auction site brings us back to the same former conclusion. It's a weighty job that would be super disappointing to find that the replacement is no better than what you removed. Additionally I will replace the external bolts with stainless and paint the Aluminium, with an extra coat for the steel motor casing when I receive the new actuator.

Many thanks for your prompt reply and advice..

At least now I can make an informed decision, having looked into it, new replacements are not as expensive as I had first feared so will go down that route.

Cheers

Good afternoon, did you manage to resolve the issue?

Been trying to resolve an issue with the S-Type getting stuck in Park.  Have had the J-Unit replaced (XR817754) but that didn't fix it and once they ran the diagnostics said it needed replacing the electric component of the gear lever (JLM21993).  So they ordered that part and then that part came without the park position lock actuator (which is the faulty component). So they have suggested there is no way of getting a new actuator as it has been discontinued so no way of fixing.  Did you manage to source one / replace second hand?

Hi JCB_2021

Sorry it was the electric parking brake on mine that was faulty, it wasn't stuck in park.

I would advise you to open a new post, I'm sure someone will be able to help, you can probably get what you need from a breakers.

Do not wish to poke my nose in where it is not wanted but I wonder of this link may prove of any use?

Good Luck, Best Wishes and Regards, John

Hi John,

You are certainly not poking your nose in. Thankfully fitting a new actuator (motor assembly) fixed mine, having taken the original one off twice to try and fix it and having it fail a couple of months later I decided that new would be the best option due to it being a pain to remove and replace.

Good that you have the problem sorted. Happy motoring.
