Hello, i wonder if any one can help me, i have, not long ago, purchased an s type 2.7 diesel, when i bought the cat, the e-brake was not working, however when you started the car, the message said       " unable to apply handbrake " But drove without a noise or warning light , I looked on the forum and it says i can reset the e-Brake by disconnecting the battery for 10 mins [ negative lead ], then reconnect, start car, pump foot brake 5 times, then lightly press and hold foot brake while applying E-Brake, this will re calibrate the e-brake, i followed this procedure, and now the message says push foot brake and apply hand brake, however when i do this i get the red brake light flashing the amber pad warning light and an amber light on dash, when i move off there is a very very annoying beep beep beep sounding if i go above 3mph, i need to use my car every day and wondered if there was any way i can get rid of the beep beep beep noise until i can get it sorted, my battery has been checked and id totally fine, has anyone got a temporary bypass method for the beep beep as it is driving me insane, the snap on diagnostic tool will not read the e-brake moduel, so i am stuck. The car still drives mint but very annoying noise, hope some one can help

Looks like i am on my own with this one then, i have replaced the module and it has stopped the infernal beep beep, however the brake pad warning light is still on along with the amber light on dash, but the main thing is, the dreaded beep beep has gone thank goodness

hi

only way to know for sure is get it plugged in, can be one of many things

would not rule out module, unless it was known working and tested

but could be one on many things, but sounds like a bad EPB motor

getting it plugged in will tell you where the fault is

would not rely on park either, as the park pawl is not very strong and not designed to hold the weight of the car

cheers

spacer.pngHi John.

Look to the top far left inside the engine compartment.  It is covered over.

I will put a photo on after i have had my breakfast!

Regards,

Peter.

Sorry to hijack an older thread.

I've have a problem with the EPB again.  This time it is sticking on with the message on the dash saying EPB fault.  I've disconnected the battery (which is only 6 weeks old and recently on trickle charge so is healthy).  The module and motor were both replaced last year, so are only 18 months old.  After disconnecting the battery I can get it to reset and I can hear the motor operating until it fails.  There are no error messages on my generic code reader to give me any clues.

I can get it recovered to a local specialist but was wondering is it worth changing the module for a new one, thing is does it need to be keyed into the car?

Thanks in anticipation.

hi

only way to know is to get Jaguar ids/sdd software plugged in and see what the fault is, this software will tell you exactly where the fault is

whn you say they have been replaced, were they used, if so either could of failed, dont think new ones have been available for a while now

virtually impossible to diagnose without the correct software, could be module, common if boot get damp, wiring breaks by the epb is not tied up or the reed sensor can fail on the epb motor

cheers

Well it's been into a Jag specialist and the quote is just shy of £900 to repair it.

When I add that to the couple of other issues it has it's destined for the scrap yard I'm saddened to say.

Oh well, tick it off my childhood dreams; I owned a Jaguar.

The plot thickens.

I agreed with the specialist to send the unit off to be refurbed, thought I'd give it a go, that was some 4 weeks ago.  Chased them a couple of weeks back and was told the the refurbers are very busy?  Tried again today and apparently the unit is possibly beyond repair and a used one is/could be the only option.

Now this is where it gets confusing.  I took the car to them, they kept it for the day as they said it was tricky to remove the module and they also said they'd removed the ECU(?), but I drove it back home???  The only part I can see missing is the PB module in the boot on the off side.  Car drove fine apart from the warning beep and the dash flashing re the PB and foot brake.  Is there anything else associated with the PB module?

Tonight I've messaged SNG Barratts in Bridgnorth Shropshire with regards to a new module, apparently obtainable on special order - whatever that means.

https://www.sngbarratt.com/English/#/UK/parts/8055117c-ebcd-4be4-b3ab-fe4a7ffb9c85?fromList=Search for `park brake module`

Rimmers are also showing them but different part number and for Land Rover Defenders - are they the same?  I'm led to believe its the same set up on Range Rover Sports????

Am I being given the run around here?  Is it simply a case of a replacement, new or second hand, and plugging it in?

I don't want to scrap it, besides I'll get nothing for it and it's far too good to be broken (70k and a good service history).  I'd at least like to p/ex it as a runner.  Beside what would I replace it with - a BMW?????

Thoughts would be appreciated folks.

Tell the people who said they will refurb the unit that, if they can't do anything with the unit they MUST return it to you. Then send it to me, I will give it some PCB rework and we'll see if that does it. Don't worry, I work for an electronics firm and there isn't much we can't do. PM me if ok.
