Hi Guys,

Thanks for the membership.

I have been given a 2001 XJ8 (possibly Executive) 4.0. The good news is that I got given the car for nothing but the bad is that it hasn't turned a wheel in anger in 4 years. I'm trying to suss out what the car is worth in good useable condition before I commit to spending the £3-£4k it's going to cost in mechanical work and bodywork.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Cheers

Bob

Hy Bob, Nice looking JAG, I can see from photos it needs new panels, as you got the car free, spending 3 - 4K on it your gonna have a really nice car at the end of it, good examples command high prices, 2001 model has the updated tensioners in engine so you should be OK there, how many miles on it? If looked after engine can litterly go forever. In my opinion this model is the last of the true jag saloons, it can only go up in value, I have a 2003 model, I'd never sell it but its gotta be one of best in country.

Thanks Tony. Costs seem to be working out a fair bit higher than I anticipated, so not sure whether to proceed or not.

Hi Bob, and welcome to the club.

You have a fair job on hand but the interior looks quite good and the damaged bodywork could be easily repaired with the rest just getting some elbow grease.

The mechanical parts is yet to be examined but the Jaguar is a sturdy car and it may surprise you.

Good luck and keep us informed.

Regards,

Peter.
