At present, with current restrictions et la,  my lovely Jagwahr is idle for much of the week, and I'm wondering about the wisdom of the electric handbrake being applied all the time. I've read that it can be problematic.

When I've parked it up today, I've left it off.

What's the perceived wisdom of  collective? On or off?

And is there anything to be gained by operating it in succession several times once a week to keep it from seizing?

When parking on my drive, as it is flat, I leave the brake off. I used to leave it off for 10 weeks at a time when I went to sea with no problems whatsoever in operation afterwards.😊

hi

leaving handbrake on long term does not effect its reliabilty

but things like low battery does, sticking caliper and stiff cables or damp in the boot

the park brake pawl on the gearbox is not really designed to hold the car weight and can easily will break in over loaded, ie nudged by another car

in a flat garage or flat drive I would leave it off, but if parked on anything but flat or on a public road would always apply the park brake, how would you justify the car rolling away and damaging or worse case hurting some one if the park fails

cheers

You can't leave the eBrake "off", when the ignition key is removed the vehicle will apply it automatically. If you want to operate it 'per se' then switch on the ignition, push down on the foot brake and then press the eBrake switch, pull up again to apply it. Do that a few times if it makes you feel better.

Hi Justin

"Rupert" says If you hold his handbrake button down as you turn off the ignition, the brake will stay off.

I does indeed stay off.

After sitting with handbrake applied for most of the last week, it came off with a jolt today.

Before switching off  engine when parking up again, I operated the handbrake on and off a number of times to keep it moving.
