Hello, Considering the purchase of an X Type Diesel Estate and wanted to see what I was getting into before buying

Ex Marine Engineer

Usual Vehicles have been Land rovers, did purchase a VW Touareg 2.5tdi, now have a broken Jeep Cherokee KJ, 

Been out of Hospital a week due to an unplanned A&E admission for a perforated small intestine

Looking around to see if a Jaguar is viable, considering now it will have to be looked after by others.

Any help or advice appreciated.

One of my sons has had a Jaguar Diesel Estate for over 3 years.  His car has the 2.0 litre Ford Engine which is a reliable workhorse.  The other diesel engine, which is still used by Jaguar is the 2.2 Litre which is a later engine than the 2.0 litre.

Both are sound cars and a comfortable drive.

Hi John, Most of my life I have had Land Rovers and other rather agricultural vehicles, for the most part I have always done my own maintenance and repairs without any major hiccups so am reasonably mechanically competent. I now have a Jaguar XE and would not dare to do any more than routine maintenance to it, being completely baffled by the electronic wizardry. I doubt if many modern cars will be diy projects any more. I still love the Jag.

Hi John, I`ve got a 2008 x type diesel estate auto and I love it. Its not all that comfortable as the suspension is a bit hard but its a really good drive. It has all the usual problems that cars have but providing you do things like always use premium fuel and I change the Oil and filter every 7 thousand miles. I`m sure it pays off. I live out in the sticks and I dont do many short runs but I still make sure a go for a blast in manual mode every now and then. Fing yourself a good independent garage.  Ive done 150k miles and dont know what I would change it for when the time comes.
