Hi

I have owned my 2007 S type (2.7 D XS) for a month or so. It runs faultlessly in every way but one.

I noticed from about 50 mph onward on motorway I was getting steering wheel shudder. I had the front wheels rebalanced at tyre place 1 but it persisted. I had 4 wheel tracking done at tyre place 2 but still there. Tyre place 2 are going to check balancing on all 4 wheels just to be sure. Tyre place 2 says they see no issues with track rod ends etc as they inspect before tracking.

If the balancing doesn't resolve it does anyone have any ideas?

Tyre place 2 also mentioned that it has "poly bushes" which I know nothing about but I understand they are firmer and may give a firmer ride.

Interested in any ideas so that I have half a clue if I end up putting into the garage for a closer look. The MOT is also due next month so maybe that will throw up the problem.

With thanks

Steve

I had an Astra 10 years ago with a similar issue, turned out to be delamination inside a front tyre. These were the Michelins the car came out the factory with and had only done 3 thousand miles or so. You couldn't see a bulge on the outside but certainly felt it when driving and became more pronounced the faster you went.

Thanks NeBC. It feels to me that it has worsened since the tracking was done and I also think it is shuddering under braking. Maybe warped discs / wheel bearing something. So much so that I don't plan to drive it until sorted now, I have left it at the tyre place to have a look tomorrow and if they can't solve it then its a garage job. I will let you know what happens!

Hi Steve,

My guess would be the front brake discs need replacement as they are out of shape.

I had a similar issue, thought of wheel alignment first but eventually replaced brake discs (& pads) and all is good since.

Can you feel any vibrations on the steering wheel while breaking from higher speeds?
