I have a 2000 Jaguar S-type 3.0.   Love my car but it recently started warning “Transmission Fault” .  After the first couple of times it happened we ordered a new gasket and filter and had the transmission serviced.  Which turned out to be a waste since the fluid was only slightly discolored if at all.  A week later it happened again.  Then I noticed that every time I drove by a particular area it would always trigger the transmission fault.  With the exception of that one spot the transmission fault happens randomly.  My best guess is that the spot that consistently triggers the fault must have some electromagnetic anomaly but as the other occurrences are so random or at least they seem to be I wondered if anyone else has experienced this problem and if so what to do about it.

You need the a code reader to tell you what the specific code is..

That will make diagnosis much simpler 😉

The code reader is extremely expensive!  But what I think is really weird is how it is triggered at the exact same spot on the road.  Don’t you think that says something about the system??  And I am not exaggerating when I say it happens in the exact same spot.  It happens every single time a drive past this place.

Yellow light or Red light? By the sound of it when the ignition is switched off the light is no longer there when you start the car again? Fluid level could be low, overheating (snatchy changes), or a solenoid fault. Failing that have the local vicar perform an exorcism.

If it always happens in the same location then I'd guess you're braking, decelerating or accelerating for a particular reason every time, such as at a filter junction, so that could be a clue. I'd follow JustBadly's advice and get it checked/exorcised..

My own car often acts oddly too - it plays hide and seek in supermarket car parks if I leave it alone for too long..
