I have to charge my xf battery outside, my power comes from the house with no outside socket, with the battery in the boot what might be a good set up? Does the boot need to be closed during charging overnight?

Thanks.

You have no problem there Rob. Just close the boot and lock the car, the CTEK will take care of itself.

Hi

Try keep the charger itself indoors as its mains and wont like water

the battery side of the charger lead could be extended if required

best to fit a socket in the boot, so its easy to plug in and just shut the boot

but make sure if you put a socket or connect to the battery direct you use a fuse to protect the lead to the charger as this will be connected to the battery

if you look on eBay they do, convenience leads with easy to plug in socket and also extension leads if required

also another trick is a ball of bluetack over your ignition switch, which reminds you its on charge, as some people just drive off and forget

cheers

Joe

I've fitted a Ctek comfort panel to a plastic insert next to the shopping hook in the boot , and i leave the Ctek mxs 7 in the boot and use a thin extension cable and just shut the boot lid.

I've never heard off that one before Joe, driving away with the charger still connected and the blue tack is a good pointer.

Regards Tom.

It’s a bit daft Tom, if people can forget they have it connected then they surely can push blutac into the barrel by forgetting its there. If people are that mentally deficient then hang a warning triangle on the steering wheel, that’s if they can remember to do that.

An alternative would be a bed off nails lying on the driver's seat or a boxing glove that hits you when the door is opened.Lol

Owners of older British motorbikes often fit a tap to stop the Oil draining from the Oil tank down to the sump when the bike is not being used,(wet sumping), you would be surprised how many riders drive off forgetting to turn the tap on again. The consequences are very expensive.

Charged the Battery with the Ctek mxs7 yesterday and it took 3 hours from the red light till the green light was showing on the charger.

I know that some members leave the Ctek connected when there car is not being used, but i can't do that because the XF sits on the road.
