Hi guys

I need to change the rear discs and pads on my 62 plate XF Sportbrake 2.2d premium luxury. I have the parts, including the wear sensor, but was wondering if there is anything I should be aware of? Had the car 6 months and slowly getting any issues sorted as previous owner didn't take care of her as well as they could have.

Thanks in advance

Jon

Never had to do this job personally, though did have the dealer replace the rear brake pads under warranty. As I understand it, the issue you may face will be releasing the electronic handbrake whilst you undertake the work. There is a procedure to do this, but I can't remember what it is - possibly something that could be researched on t'internet...

Had to do this on a Vauxhall Insignia with an electronic handbrake and officially it was a case of using either official software or an iCarsoft to release the handbrake, change pads and then reset the handbrake. However, members of a forum for the model said, just release the handbrake as normal, fit the new pads, pump the brakes to get the caliper pistons correctly positioned and then apply the handbrake. Did this and no problem. Just wondering if this also applies to the XF?

Afternoon Jon,

I have just bought a 3.0 twin turbo XF with a new MOT other than an advisory that the rear brake discs are showing signs of corrosion.

I have bought Brembo discs and pads and thought about changing them myself but have been told a computer is needed to 'reset' the electronic handbrake.

Jaguar are expensive and don't want to use aftermarket parts but a couple of local mechanics who have helped with other cars say it is about an hours work and they have the software to reset everything.

Hoping to have the discs changed in the next month or so!

Not sure if this helps!

Best wishes.

Jon Collins.

Cheers Jon.

Since I posted this I have done research elsewhere and apparently the resetting of the EPB is relatively easy without a computer. Having said that my wife bought me a Foxwell scanner that will allow me to wind the brakes back and reset the EPB. Once the weather has improved I will be doing the discs and pads myself that I bought from Autodoc, and painting my calipers too 😁

The procedure to wind back the E0B motors is as follows

Sit in car with park brake  off

Hold park brake release for 4 seconds

After the 4 second continue to hold release but now hold accelerator down hard for 4 seconds

Now whilst both are are being held use your right hand to cycle the ignition off and on quickly

Keep both held down and if you have done it right you should hear the motors winding back and you will get a message saying park brake in maintenence mode

Once you have replaced the discs and pads to take it out of maintenance mode repeat the procedure but hold park brake switch on
