Central locking issues

Hi guys

can anyone help me? as I’m getting nowhere with the dealership.
My 2017 XF has suddenly developed a problem with the central locking.
If the car is left for an hour or more, it doesn’t respond to the key fob, have swapped the key fob with the spare but made no difference, open using mechanical key, alarm goes off until ignition button is pressed, then works fine ( locking and unlocking) until left for a hour, then no response again, any ideas?

It seems to have happened at the same time roadside assistance and app has run out of subscription.

Hi Alan

My first port of call would be the battery state of charge. Low voltage causes all sorts of random issues. Has the Stop/Start been working OK? If not cause is likely a low voltage. Do you have a charger? If so connect it ASAP. If not, and the car still starts, go for a long run and turn as many electrics as possible off to allow the alternator to recharge the battery.

If all of the above don't help please come back as I am sure that there are more wise heads than mine to help you. 🙂

John

Hi John

Thanks for your input,I thought the same at first but have fully charged the battery with no improvement, starts okay every time and once it has (woken up) it will lock and unlock as many times as you like, this only happens when it has been left for an hour or more.

Thanks for that, I’ll try that tomorrow and let you know.
I’ve got no errors, messages or other problems with it.
Jaguar can’t have a look at it until 31st December, can think of better ways of spending New Year’s Eve.
cheers

Alan

I also feel that it is a voltage/battery issue if the problem appears after the Jag has been sitting for a while. To confirm this, why don't you buy one of those Voltage/USB plug in units from Halfords (less than £5) and see what happens to your voltage? I think if it drops below about 12.2v after an hour, you might have a battery problem.

Hi Carpo

Thanks for your input, I will try that but I have had it on charge overnight and made no difference, the car was registered September 2017 , so only just over 3 years old, and only covered 17,000 miles.
it also will open close and alarm as many times as you like, once it has woken up.

ive got it booked in with the dealership next Monday , I’ll post the results.
thanks again

Alan
