Sorry I forgot  the engine is a 2.7 turbo diesel and it does have a timing belt but has only done 38000 miles therefore the question do I need to replace  I have heard of people having their timing belt replaced and the new timing belt broke so concerned.

hi

if its the original belts, both need replacing, oe belts need replacing every 10 year or 100k

mileage is irrelevant, they perish after years, oe ones are 10 years , most other manufacturers like Gates belts are every 6 years

if timing one goes, it will bend a lot of valves and more likely not viable for repair

I'd get the belts done as soon as really if there oe

cheers

Joe

Thanks for your help  Anyone know the OEM manufacture of the parts for the type s 2.7   Do not want a copy,   if possible direct from the original manufacture which is cheaper than from dealership for same manufacture and I do not trust Dealerships my experience with both jaguar dealership and Toyota dealerships is total mistrust.  I have videos from both cars cameras when the cars were in the service centre of the two dealerships that shocked me and never used them again   Again thanks for your advise

should have said above After getting the parts I will try to find a good mechanic to do the job with the parts I get and if possible either inmy own garage with me there or if I can be present at their garage

Only way to get OEM parts is go to jag. I bought a Merc timing chain from a big European car parts chain (No Pun intended) It was from the same manufacturer as the OEM part but was not the same quality. Some OEM parts can be bought from Citroen or Peugeot (C6 and 607) and cost 50% of the jag, check out engines on the web. I got parts for changing injectors from the local (1km) Citroen main dealer, very quick. My nearest Jag/landrover dealer is 40K from me and parts take a day or 2. The local Fordie is a real rip off merchant. A mate of mine took his car in for repair, over 500 Euros, he showed me the bill, there was 29,99 Euros for cleaning the windscreen!!!

Thanks everyone for advise The car is not being used until done the belt.   problem is the car which as done about 38000 miles and has everything a 2007 car could have auto lights auto wipers voice control etc but in the uk not worth much now being a diesel probably the belt cost will be same or more than the car is worth.  But I love it.   my everyday car is a toyota hybrid plug in could not be more different this is for local driving and the jag used to be  for long drives.   Thanks again     everyone
