Hi all, xf has been in the garage. Keep getting restricted performance with fault code P00BF mass or volume air flow b air flow too high. Garage thinks it's turbo/actuator fault but not sure. Please help.

Hi Neil

P00BF diagnostic trouble code (DTC) means that there is a problem with the Mass or Volume Air Flow (MAF) "B" sensor circuit.. That letter denotes either part of the sensor or circuit, or even a single MAF sensor if the vehicle has more than one.

Or might be  either (a) cracked manifold  or (b) sticking turbo actuator.

It could be Turbo Actuator as I had that on mine Could not get over 60 and it dropped down rapidly up hill, but fine at lower speeds / gears

Regards,

Julie.

Hi

Taken from Jag Workshop manual for 2010-11 3.0 V6 Diesel available here: http://www.jagrepair.com/JaguarXFElectricalOBDIICodes.htm

P00BF-00

Description

Mass or Volume Air Flow B Circuit Range/Performance - Air Flow Too High - No sub type information

Possible Causes

·         Air leak at air intake system B

·         Harness failure - Mass air flow sensor circuit short circuit to power

·         Mass air flow sensor 2 failure

Action

·         If this DTC is logged with P00BE-00, suspect boost air recirculation solenoid stuck open.

·         Refer to the relevant sections of the workshop manual and check the boost air recirculation solenoid circuit for short circuit to power, short circuit to ground, open circuit. Refer to the relevant sections of the workshop manual and check the induction system for air leaks

·         Check and install new boost air recirculation solenoid as required.

·        Refer to the electrical circuit diagrams and check mass air flow sensor 2 for short circuit to power. Repair harness as required. Using the manufacturer approved diagnostic system clear all stored DTCs using the ‘Diagnosis Menu’ tab and retest

·        Check and install new mass air flow sensor 2 as required

P00BF-07

Description

·         Mass or Volume Air Flow B Circuit Range/Performance - Air Flow Too High - Mechanical failures

Possible Causes

·         Intake air system, high pressure boost leak

Action

·         If this DTC is logged with P1247-00, P006A-00 & P00BF-07, suspect intake air system, high pressure boost leak

Hi Julie, thank you. Mines more low speed and is fine at high speed. There was a P2263 cide but no longer.

Thank you so much. I did have a P2263 code but no longer. It's intermittent as well and only affects low speed.

Hi Neil, That code has to do with the Turbo, but I have read that it could still be the Actuator causing both codes.
