Hello All,

I do not own a Jaguar, and I have been looking at Autotrader for a SH estate or saloon.
I own an Audi convertible, but it is not practical for winter/other tasks.

I have been looking at Audis and Mercs but have been switched over to looking at the XF and XJ as they seem really good value.

My query: I’d like to buy a 5.0 supercharged and would like pros and cons of XF vs XJ.

My children are tall (one is 5’ 10”) so I’m wondering if the rear legroom in an XF is long enough.

What are the common problems I should look out for? Is the engine strong? There are some high mileage (>100k miles) examples for sale.

Thanks for any help.

Hi Razzy,

Welcome To Jaguar Owners.

I own an X type my self so not expert on XJ or XF but can tell you that both have a 4 out 5 star rating with What car

for the XF they say

What are the most common problems with a used Jaguar XF saloon? ... However, a small number of intermittent faults and gremlins have cropped up on the XF, most prevalently in early examples. The electrics can suffer, with warning lights staying on, the touch-screen sat-nav turning itself off and the stereo sulking.
Modern Jaguars achieve some of the best reliability ratings the brand has ever had, with many customers wondering how the car's reputation was ever anything but stellar. They handle beautifully, achieve exceptional performance and fuel economy, and garner brand loyalty that few other vehicles earn from their owners.

The XJ

The speed of the Jaguar XJ, combined with its low driving position, wraparound cockpit, and sharp handling mean it's the best driver's car in its class. It creates the impression that you're driving a sports car, until you look behind and see how much space there is.

However, the nimble handling of the Jaguar is one thing, for passengers in the back, some comfort is sacrificed: even in the long wheelbase models rear headroom isn't as good as that found in the Mercedes or Audi.

Both Beautiful cars as all Jaguars are.I am sure some of the owners of these cars here can help you further.

Kind Regards,

Julie.

Xf before 2010,only real reports occasionally seem to be faults with wiring in boot, affecting it closing and brake lights

Warning lights stuck on, sat nav going off, cosmetic problems door trim loose.

fuel cap jammed

a few cases of turbo/air con problems but problems seem to occur well after 100k.

but really seems a decent reliable car.
