I have recently imported a UK registered S-Type to Luxembourg and need to change the front headlights to comply with Euro regulations. Someone has offered me a good used pair from a 2001 model. Would they be suitable for a 2007 model?

Hi Nicolas,

Someone can confirm definitely, but I don't think a 2001 headlight will be suitable for 2007. There was a major facelift in 2004 that included completely new headlights.

Good luck, Russ 😉

Hi Nicolas, and welcome to the club.

Russ is quite correct.  I have a 2007 S type and the headlamps are different from the pre 2004.

Would reccomend that you keep the headlamps you have and get the bulbs suitable for the EU.  They will fit and will not be that expensive.

I did that some years ago with an Austin.

Regards,

Peter.

Thanks Peter and Russ. So all that would be needed to comply with EU regs would be a lightbulb change and not change the whole unit?

I think it's more the UK headlights are for right hand drive, so the headlights are focused left to the kerb rather than right to into oncoming traffic. Many UK drivers will remember having to mask headlights before driving in Europe. I've just read that some Zenon headlights will not need converting, or that there is a switch to convert the beam pattern. Aren't the 2007 headlamps Zenon? You may not need to do anything!

The headlamps appear similar but the looks of the interior are left or right and the bulbs can be changed.  I had a Bulb changed by Halfords and it was wrongly positioned  —  It is all very complicated but the headlamp units themselves don't make the difference.
