Help!  My old XK8 has suddenly stopped recognising the key fob but central locking will work with the key in the door. Have checked key fobs by specialist.  They are in excellent order.  Thinks problem might be either antennae or central locking module in boot (though that works as above).  Any answers please?

Hi Andy, doubtful on the central locking module but worth checking fuse F10 10A in the trunk fuse box anyway. Aerial is a possibility though have you tried the re-pair procedure for the fobs to the car.

1. Hold headlamp stalk in the flash position

2. Put ignition key in and turn to position 1 (i.e. radio on, but no engine start)

3. Flash headlights 4 times

4. Car enters programming mode - signified by a beeps / flashing led on gearshift

5. Program each transmitter (up to 5) by pressing the lock or unlock button on each transmitter once.
The alarm will "honk" when you press the transmitter button.
The alarm must "honk" 5 times to complete the programming. Therefore, if you are only programming one transmitter you should operate the transmitter 5 times.
If you are programming two transmitters you will operate one transmitter twice, and three times on the other.
For five transmitters you will operate each transmitter once.
Note: All transmitters being serviced must be available. If the learning process is carried out without having all the transmitters present, all previous transmitter codes will be overwritten, rendering the missing transmitters inoperable.

6. After five presses on transmitter(s) car will beep to show exiting program mode.

Just another thought. You haven’t left the car for over a month without opening it, have you.

Hi Andy,

Welcome to jaguar Owners Club.

When my X type had problem it was water in key fobs

Here are common faults for most cars

  1. The key fob battery is dead: This is one of the most common reasons why your car door lock is not working. If your locks aren’t working, replacing the battery in the key fob could solve the issue. But  I know you have checked this

  2. The key fob is faulty: If the battery isn’t the problem, the issue may be with the fob itself. If you go to your car dealer, they can hook the fob up to a computer and make sure that the programming is still good. If it’s not sending a signal, the fob will likely have to be replaced.

  3. A fuse is blown: If one door doesn’t work, but others do, the problem could be a blown fuse. Replacing the fuse will correct the problem. This is a cheap and easy fix.

  4. The solenoid is bad: Again, if one door doesn’t work, but others do, the problem could be with the door lock solenoid. Replacing it may require removing the car door panel.

  5. You have a broken wire: If the lock isn’t getting power, hold the lock switch either up or down, and then open and close the door repeatedly to see if the lock will work. If it works sometimes, you probably have a broken wire.

Please feel free to post pictures of your pride and joy.

We love to see other peoples cars😃

Hope you get it sorted soon.

Kind Regards,

Julie.

Thanks Jim.  Reprogrammed keys, no change.  Will look at fuses and report back. Thank you.  Why do you think it's not the module?

Hi, I have exactly the same problem and was thinking it was a receiver problem. But first question is? Where is the antenna? And what is the module part number to try to find one used on the spare parts market?

Watch *to the garage*  xk8 fob programming video on YouTube and try that. Worked for me last night. Also a tutorial on refurbishing fobs. Best of luck 👍
