My XF was in dock this week for a repair to bodywork damage.

I had a new Vauxhall Corsa as a courtesy car and I have to say tht it was a perfectly competant form of transport but oh my days, what a difference compared to the XF.

I never realizde just how good the XF was in terms of performance, gadgets, luxury and so forth, basically just everything.

She came home looking pristine again last evening and I admit to just wasting fuel in going for a drive for no other reason than to enjoy the car.

I guess this just serves to reinforce why I like the Jaguar 🙂

Hi Paul,

I completely agree! Even my wife's Audi TT was appalling compared to the XF - noisy, rough ride, no toys!

It's great when they come back home.

They are really good cars, pain when they go wrong occasionally, but hey most of us on here seem to have the mark 1, they dont go as wrong as some others of same age.

I had an A6 before my XF and there is a world of difference. I can honestly say after the Jaguar I certainly will not be going back to Audi. Love the XF I can see me keeping it as long as I can mileage depending as I do 20-30k a year.

Audi don't have much character, they are nice cars but too clinical, the s and rs versions just boring to drive 😴

If you have a diesel I believe with motorway mileage they go forever 😀

My partner has a 2017 Mercedes E class. I drove this yesterday for the first time since owning my jag and I must say, I didn't like it. Very bumpy with the feeling I was being thrown around in a small box. Being a 2.0 engine it also seemed very slow. 

This is a total reverse of when we met a few years ago, and I owned a Vauxhall insignia. I thought her car was amazing to drive, but it just goes to show the different levels these companies are at.

I had to get a vauxhall astra estate taking one for the family a few years back, to be fair it was actually a ok car, could not fault it, did the a job, but at the same time could not say anything great about it 😁

Changed the XF for a MB E Class cabriolet, obviously, a very different beast and the XF would have cost half as much again as the MB. 2.1 litre engine rougher than the XF 3.0 but have not driven an XF 2.2 which is said to be a bit rough. The MB has a footbrake for a handbrake, sorely miss the electric handbrake. Obviously, less poke than the XFS. BUT very nice to get the top down.

Here's one for Raistlin...Need to collect some stuff from SW France. Now the OH has an MB SLK so even less room.So bought a cheap Rover 75 CDTi estate. Comfy seats, bullet proof engine, nice to see a bit of wood even if it is plastic. Perhaps, the memories were better than the reality.

No, I don't think so Paul. I enjoyed both my 75s, especially the auto. It might be significant that several people with Jaguars seem to have progressed on to them from the 75.

oh, do not get me wrong, I enjoyed both of mine, a manual that I drove for 130k miles in 5 years and an auto that I drove for 90k miles in 5 years also. However, cars have moved on since the 75 was designed and the 75 was not helped by the cost cutting measures during production. Perhaps, it is the fact that car design has moved on over the years. And yes, the 75 was well regarded in its day and perhaps moving on to a Jag is a logical progression. Getting back in to a 75, at least for me, cannot stop me from making comparisons with the XF. For one thing, the 75 CDTi is fly be wire but the spring on the accelerator pedal is very strong which means a lot harder to push down and keep down.
