HEADLAMP DIPPED BEAM HEIGHT SETTING.

"In car" level of headlights setting is working fine on all three settings. This is the adjustment of level dependent upon how many passengers. However my dipped beam lights are very low and need raising. The main beams are set well.

Can someone please explain how I can adjust the level upwards on the dipped beam.

I initially wondered, knowing that S Types suffer with the plastic adjusters break, if this was the problem. The fact that the "in car" adjustment is working fine makes me believe that the dipped beams need to be manually adjust to raise their height. The lamps themselves are not flopping up and down, which someone has already told me is the way to know if the plastic adjusting mechanism is/was broken and needed replacing.

Advice and or instructions on how to manually raise the dipped beam lights would be gratefully received.

First, I would check that the bulbs are fitted correctly and sat in the holder correctly.

Then I would check the linkages on the suspension as the level would depend on the vehicle loading

After that I would look at changing the base setting on the headlamps.....you should see an adjustment screw somewhere on the rear or top of the headlight units

I had the same problem with my XKR. It started with a Bulb warning light message and developed to the beam dropping out of sight. This happened overnight and was intending to take it to my dealer. I mentioned the problem to a friend, who used to have an XKR. He told me he paid £350 for 'diagnosis' with a dealer, only to find out it was a reduced charge battery problem. I charged my battery up overnight and the problem was gone the next day. If you use heaters for steering wheel, seats, etc in the winter, the battery charge level reduces as the alternator doesn't charge at the rate it uses power, especially on short journeys. My problem was solved easily, I hope this helps you to solve yours.

However I think the battery is up to full charge. It is less than a year old and is regularly put on charge with my OTEK MXS 7.0.

Trevor, thanks for reply. 

The headlamp Bulb fitting has been checked and they are in place correctly. The in car adjustment of height is working, as it will raise up and down as it should do. However, "Check the linkages on the suspension" ........ I have absolutely no idea where to look for this. Can you give me any further instructions on where this can be found please?

you can adjust the headlight beams, they are adjuster on the back of the head light, cant remember whether there allen key or philips screw slot, but there there.

only problem is there not seperate, the adjusters adjust both, so will raise both high beam and low beam at same time.

as for linkages on suspension, as you car has the manual adjustment on the dash, this means you car has halogen lights, not hid, which means there not self leveling, so there is no linkages on the suspension, as there are no level sensors fitted.

also all the factory workshop manual are in this link, this will eliminate any guess work. http://www.jagrepair.com/

Adjusters (height) found and have adjusted, (for info., they are adjusted with Allen Key). Along with the RING Xenon 200 bulbs that were newly fitted I now have very acceptable lighting power.
