Hi I am a new owner of an S-Type with dual fuel. The latter, when used,  appears to conflict with the engine management system, causing the orange em light to appear. Apparently, this is an MOT fail and I have been advised to acquire a code reader to switch it off. I would welcome advice on the correct model of OBD2 reader to buy to manage this quirk. TIA, Gerry

Gerry, I manage my identical year/model with one of the below readers.

Whether or not it would recognise what you are attempting to diagnose I do not know, as mine is only Petrol.

I have a 2.7D and I use an Icarsoft 930 which so far has been excellent, covering almost everything. The only DTC which is always there is U3087? which someone told me was something to do with the Injectors, which are all OK, afaik.? There are later better versions of Icarsoft analysers with a few more Jag dealer tools. There are also some analysers with virtually full jag attributes/tools but rather more expensive I believe.

Hi

most probable best diagnostic reader for the s-type is Icarsoft code reader basic ones less than £100 best one around £170 which is icarsoft LRV3, which will read every thing from engine to gearbox, abs airbags, suspension, everything

LPG on these cars is a right pain and unless fitted 100% correct will always give fault codes.

ideally for mot, you need to run on petrol and reset faults codes and leave it on petrol till its been for mot, so you should not get any codes.

its when you run on lpg I bet you get codes, the car monitors everthing like fuel, and when run on lpg will give errors because fuel is not been used

if you after just clearing engine codes, a cheap code reader would be ok, wont give accurate fault descriptions, but if your just clearing code will be ok, depends how much you want spend

cheers

Joe

HI Joe,

Can you reset the parameters of the auto box with the LRV3 or is a visit to your local jag dealer still required?

Thanks John. I bought one of these on Amazon and it appears to have done the trick. For how long, who knows? But here's hoping! G
