Xtype (x400) 2,0d rough idle when cold

Hi

This is my first post on the forum and to be honest I'm at a loss.

In September of 2021  I bought a Jaguar 2006 Xtype 2.0d it has 150,000 miles on it and is a little rough around the edges, but ran well flew through the mot and was...... cheap.

So a few months after buying it it developed a issue of running realy rough at idle when first started ( like a missfire ), this more or less clears up when the car warms up a few mins later.
Now when I say runs rough, i mean its awful.

So this is what I have tried so far :-

A good service Oil, filter, Fuel filter and air filter ! Same fault !

Ive run both redex and millers through for a few hundred miles ! Same fault !

I removed the intercooler pipe under the egr to check for leaks and break cleaned the map !! What a lovley job that was....NOT ! not too much turbo snot in the pipes : Same fault !

The egr is blanked I've run it fitted and not !! Lots of black smoke without !

I brake cleaned the Maf as a precaution : same fault !

I recently did a leak test ( when cold ) firstly noticed a lot of bubbles in all pipes ( i thought this might be my eBay tester not sealing )
the test showed I had a faulty injector.... like realy faulty ! I sent the injector of to get it serviced but was told it was shot ! so got a refurb !
I have fitted it ( not coded yet ) but the same fault is still there !

I carried out another leak test after fitting the new injector this time when the car has warmed up !! ( no or minimal bubbles in the lines )
the new injector leaked back half the amount of the remaining 3 original injectors !

Before I dig in anymore I thought id rack the brains of fellow x400 owners...

I'm thinking maybe give the other 3 injectors a go in the ultrasonic !

I'm still curious on why so many air bubbles in the lines when cold ! Anyone any pointers where to look for an air leak, its got to be somewhere on top right ?

Also if the egr is iffy ( I know this can cause rough idle ) would this show if the egr is blanked ?

Ive never had a glow light on or limp mode !!!

I hope someone can help out here, its only going to be so long and the petrol, matches and the marshmallows come out 🙂

Thanks in advance

Dave

Dave, Have you run a check via the OBD2 connector to see what codes the car may be showing. An OBD2 code reader is a very good investment and need not be extremely dear to be beneficial.  It may prove a financial advantage to try and diagnose what is /may be faulty, rather than just keep throwing money / time at numerous items in the hope of finding/eliminating the problem . I have a Foseal Reader which are fairly cheap and I manage my S-Type quite successfully with kit.

Good Luck with your diagnosis and correcting the car.

Best Wishes and Regards, John
