Hi,

I'm about to buy a 2016 XF S 3.0D, and have been told by the dealer that there is no service log book with Jaguars, and that all of the service history is online. Can anyone let me know if this is true?

The reason I'm concerned is because there is no service history after 2018 shown online. I guess that it's possible that the car was serviced at a local garage, and they weren't able to update the online history? I find it very strange that there is no accompanying paper work though.

Thanks for your advice!

If there is no online history after 2018 as you say could have been serviced elsewhere. If there is no paper work to back it up, would be a little skeptical as plenty of cars out there that do have.

Maybe able to negotiate a discount of the car?

Thanks both. Yes, I have the VIN and checked on the website (it is there that there is no service history after 2018).

And I have managed to get a good discount as well as a 12 month warranty. I'm just a little nervous!

Hi

I would check mileage recorded at service in 2018, along with mileage at any MOT (should be at least one) to compare with current mileage. That will show how much use it has had potentially "unserviced". Given the reduction in most mileages due to covid it could be the previous owner was going off mileage and ignoring the time period for servicing. Obviously main issue with servicing is Oil so if it is 3 years overdue a service but has only done 10k since last service I would be happy (if given a decent discount!)

Hi John, yes I had a similar idea. Unfortunately the last entry in the service record (in 2018) appears to have the wrong entry on the mileage (as it the same value as the previous service). Also the MOT history only goes back to 2019.

But making an educated guess, it has probably done around 25000 miles potentially unserviced....

Hi Mark.

Could you arrange for a mechanic or your local garage to check the car over ,and check condition off engine oil  and coolant levels and condition ,and also brake discs as they seem to rust up quite quickly these days and especially if the car has been sitting on a forecourt for a while.
