About 6 months ago I started getting the dreaded 5 second beep and warning light on the overhead console when I put my 2006 3.0l S-type into reverse, and of course no warnings of close objects. The front ones continue to work fine.

I tried checking the sensors after turning the ignition to position ll and putting the gear lever into reverse, but not a sound. So I replaced the control box but no luck.

I've been waiting to get it into my local garage for them to have a look at it, then last week when reversing in a car park I lost the overhead light and got warning sounds! Since then it's been intermittent, sometimes when I start up and go into reverse there's no beep or light, sometimes there is.

I assume that there's a connection problem, but where?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi Brian,

Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately, as I mentioned in my post, I've already tried replacing the control box, with no luck!

I have a similar problem with my S Type rear parking sensors. Have checked the fuse and listened for the ticking from each sensor and all working okay. Can I ask what is a control box? Thanks

The control box or module is what the sensors plug into. You will find it in the boot, probably in the spare wheel well. When you locate it, disconnect the connectors and check for corrosion as well as signs of moisture.

Any ideas what this little gizmo does? Must be related to the problem with the rear parking sensors but not sure where it goes or what it should be attached to...?

Looks like a speaker. Where does the wire go to?

If it was the speaker then the cable would go direct to the module and the speaker under the parcel shelf. If you’re saying the cable goes behind the bumper then there is some jiggerypokery going on.

Hi

on S-type the rear parking speaker usually lives under the rear parcel shelf

that speaker is for the rear parking sensor, if the beeping is coming from the overhead cosole thats usualy front parking sensors, which can be turned off on the overhead console

some S-types suffer with damp in the boot, which what causes problems with the module.

used modules also can be hit and miss, if there not off a similar spec car they wont work and have to be coded to the car like new ones.

usually is a sensor fault at the rear, you can hear them click usualy in reverse

cheers

Joe
