Hi,

I have recently bought an S type 2003 petrol.

It was fine and I put it in for an MOT on Friday, passed no problem.

But now heater not working. a/c not b owing cold air, ABS light on / drive a while goes off / stop drive a few miles on again?

DBS light on?

Now to be honest 2 weeks ago when all was working it had a 4  hour drive.

Since then only may be 20 mins a week.

Was on a 3 hour drive today.

What do you think? battery?

Kind Regards,

Julie.

Being a S-Type and having experience of them, battery would not be a surprise. They suffer with parasitic drain very easily.  I usually put mine on my CTEK MXS 7 at least once a week, for minimum of 12 hours, hopefully more. My battery was replaced 12 months ago and is for ever throwing codes if it is not kept well charged.

Good Luck and Best Wishes, John

Hi Julie

I agree with John, more than likely battery related issues.
Either connect the battery to a conditioner when not using for extended periods or maybe even get the battery tested for condition and replace if necessary.

Sometimes a longer run will bring the battery back to life (de-sulphated) and the faults can disappear until the next time it discharges.

The CTEK 7 and 10 also have a setting for RECON, which de-sulphates the battery. Basically regenerating it. Plainly a totally dead battery is a different matter. The CTEX will also act as a supply to start a car with a flat battery. To my mind they are a good investment for the money.

Keep your battery above 12.4v at all times and you’ll suffer less problems. If you don’t drive the car often then, as suggested above, a CTEK maintainer is the way to go.

I have just purchased the CTEK 7, and will be delivered next week.

Recently I have found that, when I take the long trip from Windsor to Devon to see the children, or the 50 minute drive to get to work, everything on the car works fine. Doors lock correctly, camera is fine, warning lights are gone.

I can only assess  that due to the distance I am driving, the battery is getting sufficient charge, and therefore I have invested in the CTEK 7. I will update all on whether this has a positive effect.
