I bought another 2015 XF S Portfolio as my 1st one ended up being nicked and written off only after 7 months of taking ownership and in my new 2015 XF, the nav maps are out of date, as most will be by now and id like to update them but the costs are putting me off. Its £180 for maps from the official website or £100 from a spurious website and I know that i’ll have to keep spending that each time i want to update them. And that got me thinking, is there anyway that i can have apple car play in my X250 without having to go down the replace the audio system and screen?

This has been covered before somewhere.

Maps can be updated but even the newer version is still serveral years old I believe.

Don't believe there is a way to get apple car play on the 250 stereo system unfortunately 😕

If you are still looking for an answer to this then I may be able to help.

You can get a module that fits behind the stereo, a bit of a headache to fit as half the dashboard trim has to be removed but it's not difficult.

The module is readily available on eBay, I got mine from AliExpress.

Can you recommend anything? Iv searched ali express and id rather use something that has been tried, tested and other owners would recommend.

The one I have installed (2013 XF Luxury) is at this link. It works well, and I know others have installed it into XFs too. It is a little fiddly to fit but I would say I was very average at stuff like that and managed it fine. There is a good YouTube installation walkthrough available.
