Mystery battery drain.

Recommended Posts

Hi gang, am suffering a bout of extreme frustration. Have a 2003 4.2 Sport.

Have a parasitic battery drain. Two separate auto Electrical firms unable to find.

Good business to be in. you get paid for failure. Am now £300 lighter with no result.

hoping one of you knowledgeable guys may have a suggestion or two to put me out of my misery.

Battery drains from full charge to absolutely flat over 3/4 days. Any help will be appreciated. Tony.

First thing to do, locate the “alarm chirp sounder” and disconnect it. This is the most common area for a drain. Also check that the flap in the ignition barrel is closing when the key is removed.

hi

if its got the active sounder option, thats really common as already mentioned, battery fail in the sounder and drags the battery down.

another is mine had a hidden tracker in the boot, Jaguar one, and theres a battery on that as well that can drag the battery down

need to get a meter on the battery really and start pulling fuses, only way to find really, but your not looking at much, I bet about 1amp will do it, if you have a 90AH battery, thats means it will last 90 hours, thats a new good battery, old battery will last less

favorite items are anything thats can get water in it, like central locking motors, window motors

good luck with search

cheers

Joe

hi

when you connect a ameter to the battery, in series with the positive, the current flow should be about 30mA, thats 0.030 amps, you have to wait till the car goes asleep first, which after 60 minutes.

any half decent auto electrician should be able to sort this really

cheers

Joe
